Day Trip at Lingayen Pangasinan

Lingayen is one of the municipalities in Pangasinan and it is also considered as a first class municipality and there is no question about that because I used to go here since I was a child so I witnessed all the changes and improvements of this place.

We are all familiar with Lingayen because it is part of our History subject, it is our former president Fidel V. Ramos aka FVR birthplace and one of the World War II strategic points. Would you believe that it is also considered as the most romantic place in the country?

If you are planning to visit Bolinao or Hundred Islands, you can include a Day Trip in Lingayen, Pangasinan in your itinerary. As I mentioned before, I’ve been to Lingayen, Pangasinan several times, when I was a kid, my uncle always invites us if there are events in their province like wedding or fiesta. Then I got married to my husband who was born and raised in Pangasinan too.

Now, I’m sharing with you the things that you can do or visit if you visit Lingayen, Pangasinan.

Lingayen Beach

Lingayen’s long beach is open to the public; there are cottages where you can stay if you just want to relax or if you want to swim. I have so many memories from this beach and I could no longer remember how many times I have been here.

But during our past visits last 2011 and 2016, we did not swim.

March 2011 - after dropping my mother-in-law in the market, we went to Lingayen just to show the different tanks and planes to my son. It was just a quick trip because we need to fetch my mother-in-law in the market again.

December 2016 - we were supposed to swim but unfortunately, my son had fever day before our trip so relax na lang at may Sagada pa kami. hehehe! He just enjoyed playing sand with his cousin.

Provincial Capitol

This is one of the beautiful capitols I’ve seen around the Philippines.

Aguedo Agbayani Park

Just in front of the Provincial Capitol, you can see the Aguedo Agbayani Park. This is a nice place to relax at night, mainit sa umaga syempre. Hehehe!

Cultural Memorial Park

It is where you can see pictures and read stories about World War II so if you like history you will enjoy this place.

World War II Memorabilia

Around the area, you will also see World War II Memorabilia Ground Site. There are tanks and small airplanes that were used in World War II.

Urduja House

During our last visit, we were able to visit Urduja House but we were not able to go inside the house. It is not open sa public pala but we were allowed to go inside the gate and take pictures outside the house.

Ramos House

Then we started looking for Ramos House, it is located at the back of President’s Hotel. It is also closed, I’m not sure if it is open to public or guests of President’s Hotel.

Some attractions that you can visit in Lingayen, Pangasinan are Town Park, Capitol Grounds, Sison Auditorium, Limahong Channel and Narciso Ramos Sports Complex and Civic Center.

Highlights of Year 2016

I know that Three Kings is already over but here I am, still posting my highlights of 2016. Well, as I always say, it is nice to reminisce and reflect on what happened in your life. Sometimes, you feel that it is not a good year but then you will realize, it is not a bad year after all.

If the year 2015 is a challenging year for our family, bumawi naman kami sa 2016. Though there were still challenges overall, it is still a good year so I’m thankful for the year 2016

2016 is a year of acceptance, last year I was adjusting to my husband’s work. He has so many business trips that I’m not used to. For someone who is “TIME” is the language of love, the presence of my husband is very important to me.

But accepting the fact that he really needs to travel for work makes my life easier. Nakakapagod na rin naman magtampo kung wala siya pag weekend or holidays so accept and move on na lang.

2016 is a year, when I’m trying to be independent, I used to be independent when I was still single, I can go anywhere and anytime I want. Things change when I got married and had my son, I became so dependent on my husband na dapat lagi ko siya kasama kahit saan.

But year 2016, I’m trying my best to be independent. It started with our Cebu trip, I’m proud to say na nakapagtaxi kami na kaming dalawa lang mag-ina. It is a big achievement for me. Hehehe! My son and I were able to tour Japan and Singapore without hubby because he was busy with work so kami lang mag-ina ang namasyal. Hopefully, I can do that here in the Philippines, sana safe na in the near future.

2016 is also our travel year, last year I realized that life is so short, sa sobrang severe ng psoriasis ko feeling ko mag-goodbye earth na ko so when my condition improved last year, I really took advantage of the time na ok ako. Throughout the year, I was still going to the hospital for check-up and lab tests but no phototherapy so I could travel. Yes, do the things that make me happy while I’m still ali
ve.

So let me share what happened in 2016?

January

We started our year with check-ups, my son and I started wearing eyeglasses. I have had eyeglasses since college but after I resigned from work, I stopped going to ophtha na. Wag gayahin, we need to have eye check-ups every year. I need to change my eyeglasses kasi tumaas na pala grado ko. And because I need to be a role model to my son, lagi ko na rin suot. Hehehe!

My son went to Pediatric Dentist too for tooth extraction, it is one painful experience that he can’t forget. Of course, I had my routine check-up with my derma.

February

My husband underwent Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy at St Lukes BGC so we had a hospital staycation. I was thankful for the successful operation, I have never been so scared in my life, di ako mapakali nung nasa operating room hubby ko.

February is also our wedding anniversary and we just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. Oh yes, one decade of TWOgetherness. We had a staycation at Vivere Azure, ate at La Finca Tagaytay and tried painting at Sip & Gogh Alabang

March

Our family joined, “Run for Hungry Minds”. My son and I joined 2.5km while my husband finished the 5km run.
We went to National Shrine Pio, Nurture Wellness, and Caleruega again last Holy ThursdayWe had Easter Staycation at Vivere Hotel, my son experienced his first Easter Egg Hunting event. Watch the video here

My son got Red Eagle Award so we went back to school for Recognition Day.

April

We revisited Cebu, this was a memorable trip because we stayed in Cebu for 6 days, unlike nung last visit namin na overnight lang. Hehehe! My son and I experienced business class flight. We tried three hotels during our trip, we stayed in Cebu City Marriott Hotel, Cebu Parklane International Hotel and Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan

Breakfast at Verbena Restaurant of Discovery Country Suites

We are frequent visitors of Tagaytay because we live in Southern Luzon so it is the nearest getaway for us. On our way to Tagaytay, we always passed by Discovery Country Suites and this hotel is still on my bucket list. We’re supposed to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary here last year but unfortunately, they are fully booked for the week of our anniversary so we ended up in Vivere Azure. It is not surprising that they are always fully booked because they only have 7 rooms. Hopefully, in the near future, I can finally tick it off on my list

Read: Staycation at Discovery Suites Hotel

For the last few years, it became our tradition to go to Tagaytay church every Christmas and eat hearty breakfast before going home. So last Christmas, off we went to Tagaytay as early as 5 AM, we wanted to attend the first service. On our way to church, we’ve been contemplating where are we going to eat breakfast, ano pa ba ang nasa bucket list namin? Hehehe!

We’re supposed to eat a buffet breakfast but I suddenly changed our plans, di ko feel magbuffet muna. Hehehe! So off we went to Discovery Country Suites, we don’t have any reservations, we just go there and asked if they accept walk-ins. Yey, they accept walk-ins!

Upon entering the Discovery Country Suites, you will immediately see the Restaurant Verbena. We chose the table with a view, of course, and the staff handed us the menu. Since it was our first time, it took us time to choose our meal.

All breakfast meals are priced at P495+, it include a buffet of butter croissants, biscuits, Danish pastries, pandesal, banana bread, fresh fruits, and seasonal juices. The drink is a choice of refillable coffee, tea or hot chocolate.

While waiting for our order, we ate bread while my son ate cereal. The hot chocolate is not instant chocolate but tsokolate de batirol. Yum!

I ordered Verbena Breakfast Steak, seared US beef short plate, onions, and pepper served with egg and roasted potatoes.

My husband ordered Regions Breakfast, it includes the best of Southern Luzon on a plate which is crispy tawilis and Lucban longganisa served with egg and garlic rice.

My son ordered Cottage Breakfast, which includes fluffy pancakes with scrambled eggs, country sausage, and bacon. He was not able to finish this meal kasi nabusog na siya sa bread and cereals so take-out na lang.

We enjoyed our breakfast meal because it feels like home. The place was not crowded and the service is fast and efficient. Good thing I changed my mind and chose Verbena for our Christmas breakfast. It is no doubt that this is a multi-awarded restaurant.

The price is not budget-friendly but for me, it is worth it because you have buffet bread, cereals, fruits, juices, and drinks + the meal of your choice. It is like having an intimate breakfast because of the place and service. Christmas naman, time to treat ourselves with good food.

Shopping at Miniso

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about Miniso in social media last year but the location is just so far. Last month, while eating at SM Southmall Food Court, I saw the store of Miniso and I told my husband that we will check the store before we go home.

Miniso is a Japanese fast fashion designer brand that pursues simple, natural and quality life philosophy. It was established in the year 2013 and it offers products at an affordable price but high quality.

If you love Daiso, you will also love Miniso. You can buy home necessities, health and beauty products, accessories, sports products, food and drinks, electronic, bags, toys and many more. The cheapest price I’ve seen is P99.

At that time, the store was really packed so I was not able to check the different aisles but I was able to buy few items. Sayang nga, ang dami pwede pang gift at affordable price so I promised myself that I will go back again. If I remember it right, you can also use your SM Advantage here and credit card payment is accepted.

Sharing with you, my shopping finds.

Holiday 2016

Hello! I’m back after two weeks of blog hiatus. It is a planned break so I can spend the holidays with my family. My husband was on leave since December 20 and December 21 is the last day of my son in school so it is a long holiday for us. Bihira lang yan mangyari in one year so sulitin na ang bakasyon.

So what happened to our Holiday 2016? Well, our holidays are not that busy if I will compare it last year because we had less Christmas get together. But this time we really enjoyed our holiday break because hindi na ko nagcram sa pagbili ng gifts and we had a long vacation. Yes, vacation na and hindi na staycation sa bahay. Hehehe!

December 21

Christmas Party and last day of my son in school.

December 22

I paid our Real Property Tax to take advantage the discount. Then we went to Alabang Town Center to buy our exchange gift for the family. When the budget is limited, we set budget for our gifts and we all know gifts do not need to be expensive to make you feel special. This year, minimum of P500 ang exchange gift namin mag-asawa. Hehehe!

December 24: Laguna

No stress this time because my mother-in-law decided to have our yearly get together at their house so less stress in cleaning our house, in preparing and cooking food. I only prepare for our potluck food. I cooked Crispy Lechon Kawali, Buko Pandan and Ginataang Bilo-bilo

When we went home, I cooked for our Christmas dinner. I prepared for Baked Macaroni, Crispy Lechon Kawali, Puto With Cheese and Buko Pandan. We opened our gifts and slept.

December 25: Tagaytay

We woke up as early as 4AM because we will attend church in Tagaytay habang wala pa traffic. Then we had breakfast at Verbena in Discovery Country Suites Tagaytay and we went home to rest.

December 26

We were busy keeping our Christmas Decorations, since we won’t be home for the next few days. Actually my husband didn’t want to remove it yet but I told him na ayaw ko na magligpit pagdating namin at for sure pagod na kami sa biyahe.

Then we pack our stuff for our Pangasinan - Baguio - Sagada Getaway, parang buong bahay nga dala namin. Lol

December 27: Family Reunion

We left as early as 3AM to avoid the traffic. My husband’s family has a grand reunion in Pangasinan, as in buong angkan so nagpagawa pa ng T-shirt for each clan. So for Team Solee, red color kami.

I was not able to attend the program because my son has fever so nasa kwarto lang kami the whole day. Resting and praying that he will get well soon. Good thing that the venue was in my grandmother-in-law's house so nakakain pa naman kami ng handa. hehehe!

December 28: Day Trip at Lingayen

We’re so happy na wala na fever ng anak ko, thank you sa Tempra. Hehehe! We dropped by at Lingayen beach, we’re supposed to swim here kaso kagagaling lang ng anak ko sa sakit so pahangin lang.

December 29 to January 1: Sagada

Off we went to Sagada. Initial plan is December 28 pero may coding pala sa Baguio so we moved it. Sayang, we missed the Bonfire Festival in Sagada. Expect for my Sagada series after my holiday post.

January 2: Imus, Cavite

Unpacking stuff and household chore in the morning. After lunch, we went to Imus, Cavite to fetch my grandmother-in-law.

That’s all! Tomorrow is back to school na. Waiting for the next holiday break

How to Make Polymer Clay Christmas Ornaments

I don’t change our Christmas tree theme every year because ornaments and decorations are expensive and we live in a small house so changing decors every year will not help us. Where will I store all the decors after Christmas?

The less you have and do, the more you will FREE

So for the last few years, I just added one or more ornaments and reuse the old decors. If there is stuff that I won’t use anymore, I give it away. For the last 3 years, we’ve been making handmade decorations on our Christmas tree. So far, we made Christmas angels, paper ornaments, salt dough ornaments and gingerbread ornaments.

It is really nice to see those DIY ornaments every year because it is not just a decor, we made it and there is a story behind it. It is a good way of keeping our memories alive.

Last Saturday, we made another Christmas Ornaments using Polymer Clay. It is our Day 17 Advent Calendar activity. We’ve made Salt Dough Ornaments last year but it did not last so this year I decided to use polymer clay.

I bought polymer clay last month at National Bookstore but there are only two available colors, green and yellow and I chose green. I only bought one clay so we can try it, the polymer is not cheap too, P95. For the tools, we use my son’s clay tools that I bought in Daiso Japan, old Christmas tree Cookie Cutter, and Oven Toaster.

Since it will be our first time to use polymer clay, we just chose an easy design which is Christmas Tree and we put our family fingerprint to add a personal touch.

For baking time, I just refer to the instructions at the back of the polymer clay packaging. We use sharpie pens to color the fingerprint.

We’re so happy with our first polymer clay Christmas ornaments. We will definitely do this again, more practice pa. Aside from NBS, do you know where I can buy polymer clay here in the Philippines?

Update: December 2017

We did not do any Advent Calendar activity this year. Last year, we made ornaments using polymer clay so this year, my son wanted to make a new ornament. So when I visited a bookstore, I bought red polymer clay. He was bugging me to do it right away but I told him, sa Christmas break na lang so he has something to do.

So during the holiday break, we made new polymer clay ornaments. We did not hang this anymore kasi few days nalang Christmas na. hehehe! But I will include this in our Christmas tree next year. I made the wreath and watermelon.

How to Convert Your Paypal Balance to another Currency?

Since October, I was having issues with Paypal whenever I need to send payment. I have USD and PHP balance in my account but whenever I make payment, it doesn’t allow me to choose the currency. Of course, I want to use the PHP balance for PHP transactions.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Parking at Park 'N Fly

One of the concerns about traveling is “How to Get to the Airport?”. You have to consider different options. Am I going to commute? Am I going to hire a service? Will someone drive me to the airport? Or Am I going to park at the airport?

We’ve tried commuting to the airport but of course, the most convenient way is to bring the car especially since we live outside Metro Manila. Hiring a service is more expensive and commuting in the wee hours is not easy. Parking at the airport or offsite airport parking is a good option.

We used to park our car in NAIA 3NAIA 2, and DMIA but they have increased their parking fee so we tried Park 'N Fly. Since last year, my husband has been using the service of  Park 'N Fly and so far, no bad experience yet.

In my “5 Days in Singapore” post, one reader asked me “How’s our Park 'N Fly experience?” so I decided to create this post to give you an idea, just in case you are planning to park your car at Park 'N Fly.

Park N Fly Procedure

1. On your way to NAIA, you will easily notice the Park 'N Fly because it is just beside the gas station. Park your car and get all your stuff.
2. Customer’s Vehicle Registration. Proceed to the office. For the first timer, you must present your O.R./C.R (Official Receipt/ Certificate of Registration and driver’s license. On your next visit, just give your name. (if you are using the same vehicle)
3. Surrender your key. The staff will then ask for your plate number, name, and flight details.
4. Customer Vehicle Checklist. Sign a form (about the status of your car)
5. That’s it! All you need to do is wait for the free airport van shuttle service to drive you to and from the airport.

After your trip, once you get your luggage, call the Park 'N Fly office so they can pick you up. Then settle your parking fee, P350 for the first 24 hours + hourly rate.

Advantages of Parking at Park N Fly

1. You can leave your vehicles on a daily, weekly, or even monthly basis. The longest that we left the car is 7 days.
2. Park 'N Fly is open 24 hours a day and 365 days a year including weekends and holidays.
3. It is an indoor parking so rain or shine, your vehicles are covered and secured by electronic surveillance. Though I'm not sure if all cars are park in the covered area, sometimes kasi madumi yung car namin pagkuha, parang nabasa na ng ulan.
4. No reservations are needed.
5. They have a customer’s lounge with complimentary wifi and TV.
6. They also accept credit card payments.

Disadvantages of Parking at Park N Fly

1. You have to leave your car keys,
2. An additional 30 minutes to 1 hour to your travel time because you have to wait for your turn, register or fill out the form then wait for shuttle service to the airport.
3. After getting your luggage, you have to call them and wait for the shuttle to pick you up. Then pay for the parking fee and wait for your car. Additional 30 minutes to 1 hour before you go home.

DIY Gingerbread Ornaments

Ever since I changed my Christmas tree theme last 2012, I did not change it anymore. I’m very much satisfied with our Christmas ornaments so I don’t have any reasons not to reuse it. I just buy or make our own Christmas ornaments to add more decorations to our Christmas tree.

DIY Paper Christmas Ornaments

Last year we made salt dough ornaments but they did not last, maybe because of the moisture or I did not store them properly so I threw them away. Anyway, I have a brown felt cloth at home na pakalat-kalat lang so I decided to make another ornament. Of course, I asked permission from my son because he owns the felt cloth. He got it from one of his activities at Edsa Shangri-la Cubs Trainings

My son allowed me to use it so I was able to make gingerbread ornaments. I did not buy any materials so I just use whatever I see at our home. I looked for gingerbread pattern, printed and traced it on the brown felt cloth.

From the scrap felt cloth, I was able to make four gingerbreads then I patiently sewed them. My son helped me in stuffing the ornaments and I decorated them.

We’re so happy with our handmade gingerbread ornaments and it is now hanging on our Christmas tree.  Indeed, you can save money on upcycling stuff at home.

Review of Brother DCP-T500W Printer

I guess when you have a computer at home, it is automatic that you also buy a printer. It is very significant especially if you are working or if you have kids who are in school. It is very helpful in printing documents, e-ticket, itineraries, or school homework and projects.

Read: 7 Crafty Projects You've Never Tried with your Home Printer

I have two printers at home, one for scanning and one for printing. If you remember my post five years ago, I bought a 3-in-1 printer because the old printer was broken but I was not happy about it. Three years ago, my husband replaced my laptop and it has a FREE printer (no scanner) so I’ve been using it for printing.

Read: Epson ME 320

They are still working fine but I’ve been meaning to have a new printer with Bluetooth or wifi access. I even joined the Brother contest last 2014 but I did not win the special prize, free 2015 calendar lang. Hehehe!

We live in a small home so space is very important, so I just want to have one printer that can do everything. But the problem is, the 3-in-1 wireless network printer is not cheap so I was really hesitant to buy it. The two 3-in-1 printers that I bought before wala pa P4000 and Brother DCP-T500W is P9450. Waah!

So it took me months of thinking if I will buy it or not, I’ve been asking my friend’s feedback too, she bought this printer a few months ago. She is satisfied so finally last month we bought Brother DCP-T500W at P8950. They have a FREE BPI Gift Card promo worth P1000 until December 31, 2016.

DCP-T500W (Print/Scan/Copy) 3-in-1

Wireless Network-ready Color Inkjet MFC

Print speed: up to 11ipm (mono) and 6ipm (color) - Laser comparable
27ppm (mono) and 10ppm (color) - fast mode
Print resolution: up to 1,200 x 6,000 dpi
Paper Tray: Up to 100 sheets
Wireless LAN & Mobile Printing 1 Line LCD

Brother Philippines DCP-T500W Printer Review

I’m not a tech blogger so I can’t give you a full review but I can tell you that I’m very much satisfied with our printer. Find out why?

1. It is a 3-in-1 printer so I can print, scan and copy.
2. It is wireless network ready so I can print and scan without connecting my laptop to my printer. I can print and scan also using my mobile phone, I just downloaded an app to do that.

Before, my husband always sends me his files like e-tickets and hotel confirmations to print because his company laptop has no access to our home printer. But now, he can print it on his own using his mobile phone (app).

Whenever I browse recipes online, I always see the click print button. Now, I’m happy to say that I’m enjoying that feature even though I’m just using my mobile phone. Printing is easy as 1, 2, 3.

3. The paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets and can print up to 200gsm paper. I can also adjust the paper tray according to my paper size or even photo paper size. Yes, I can print photos.

4. I like the refilling tank system of Brother DCP-T500W because the refill is only P390 and according to the packaging, it can print 6000 pages. I hope it is true because I always print worksheets and reviewer. Before I’m using ink cartridges, the ink is not cheap too. It cost me almost P1700 for the black and colored ink and because my printer is an old model, pahirapan sa paghanap ng ink.

I’ve been using this printer for almost a month and I’m still discovering and learning how to use the other features. I will just update this post.

Update July 2018: I've been using our printer since November 2017 and just this month, I saw a prompt that my Cyan ink is low. After 19 months, ngayon lang ko bumili ng ink. The ink is P390 for one bottle but there was a promo. I bought the 3-in-1 pack for P970. I saved P200. Refilling is also easy. So I guess, my investment in this printer is worth it, sulit ang ink.

Update July 2019 Nagamit ko na rin yung Free Black Ink.

Read: Brother GS2700 Sewing Machine

Update February 2021

Checking this post, July 2018 pa yung last refill ko, so it's been 31 months na pala. Sulit talaga ang Brother sa ink. Yesterday, we just replaced the Cyan ink. I don't know what is the mall price of the ink pero I'm guessing na nagmahal na after 3 years so I just bought another set of ink online. I bought this at Lazada and it arrived in good condition naman. PHP1589 for 4 bottles of ink

Since last year, I've been printing a lot of cards and stickers, I'm using 200 gsm paper and hirap si Brother ifeed yung paper. (hit and miss) And when I'm printing stickers (photo paper sticker),  madalas may roller marks so I'm currently searching for a new printer na pwede for card and sticker.

Update: September 2022

Our Brother printer is not working anymore, we did not call customer service and we just bought a new one. Since I am having problems when I am printing photo paper, I decided to buy a different brand so I am now using Canon G4010, I wanted the G6070 sana para 6 inks na but it was not available and ayaw ko na magpre-order kasi sira na nga yung Brother.
