Food Trip at Oori Korean Restaurant

If you are a regular reader of this blog, you already knew that I love Korean Barbecue so we always try different Korean BBQ restaurants and we also do our own Korean grilling feast at home.

For a change, when we had our Birthday Staycation at Sheraton Manila Club last month, we took the opportunity to eat at Oori. This Korean restaurant is located on the second level of the Sheraton Manila Hotel. It is a sophisticated version of Korean barbecue because they serve wagyu steak, imported duroc pork, and sustainable seafood.

Since we’ve been eating a lot during our staycation, we were not really hungry when we went to Oori, our initial plan is to eat Bingsu for merienda but I suddenly crave samgyeopsal when I saw their Korean Pork BBQ Feast menu for PHP2600nett so we had late lunch instead.

The Korean Pork BBQ Feast includes

Duroc Pork Belly, Duroc Pork Collar, Duroc Jowl, and Pork Skin
Duroc Pork Kimchi Jjigae
5 kinds of side dishes
Steamed Korean Rice
Sauces and vegetables for Korean wrap
Grill on the table

We just ordered one set because we just want to try it and we were expecting that they will serve one set of everything. So we were surprised when they gave rice, side dishes, and sauces per person. There is also a complimentary hot tea. Yey!

Although we enjoyed our food trip, we cannot finish everything so “take-out” na lang yung Duroc Pork Kimchi Jjigae. But we still ordered the Fresh Mango Bingsu PHP450, this is good for sharing. Sobrang tuwa ko dito kasi favorite fruit ko mango and wala sa Norway nito so 3 months akong nagcrave sa mango.. Hehehe!

Oori Korean Restaurant also offers Unlimited Korean BBQ for PHP2450nett per guest. This includes 5 kinds of banchan, noodle of the day, Denjang Jjigae, Beef Top Blade, Spanish Pork Belly, Chicken Thigh, Steamed Rice, and Fruit Bingsu.

Note: If you have Marriott Bonvoy Membership, you can get exclusive F&B Savings of 10%, 20%, or 30% discount, depending on your membership. (until June 30, 2022)

Cricut Project: Birthday Card

Two years ago, I was into printable cards, I will design my own card and print it. But I was having problems with my printer because it doesn’t accept 200gsm cardstock. Sayang naman yung mga cardstocks ko and buying a new printer is not an option. So last December, I started making cards using my Cricut Maker. I have made different cards in the past and you can view my Cricut Projects here

Last February, I spent most of my time doing craft projects because I know that I will miss it. One of the projects that I made is Birthday Cards, I need to make cards for my mom and also for my husband. Since I’ll be in Norway for three months, gumawa na rin ako ng card for my husband kasi wala na ko time gumawa kapag uwi ko. Hehehe!

I downloaded this Birthday Card Design which is perfect for us because I only need two cards. One for me and one for my son. I uploaded the SVG file on Design Space, then I used the score, draw and cut function. For the inserts, I used gold glitter cardstock and red cardstock.

Dinala ko ito sa Norway and inuwi ko din sa Pilipinas after three months. My husband was surprised when we gave him his birthday card at Sheraton Manila hotel. Hehehe! Oh di ba, always ready.

Birthday Staycation at Sheraton Manila Club

I’ve been browsing my digital albums and I noticed that for the past three years, sa Sheraton hotel lang pala kami nakapunta #hotelstaycation. Three years ago, I celebrated my birthday at Sheraton Manila and several months after that, we had a staycation at Sheraton Manila Bay. And recently, my husband celebrated his birthday at Sheraton Manila Club

Since Sheraton Manila is just across NAIA 3, I suggested to my husband na doon na lang siya magbirthday. He wanted to have a beach trip pero hindi pa kaya ng powers ko magbeach after our long trip from Norway. He did not say yes immediately because he was still checking other options. After few days of thinking, he informed me that he already booked at Sheraton Manila using his points.

My husband booked the room only so no breakfast. And because of this, we already planned where are we going to eat our dinner, breakfast, and lunch. Fast forward to our stay, when the staff learned about his birthday, she/he upgraded our room to Club Room. Check-in time was 3PM but since the room was ready, he was able to check in early. Wow! By the way, a credit card or cash deposit of PHP5000 is needed.

Staying in a Club Room entitles guests to have access to Sheraton Club and here are the privileges of club guests.
  • The Sheraton Club is open from 11AM to 12MN
  • Complimentary buffet breakfast at the S Kitchen from 6:30AM to 10:30AM
  • Hors d’oeuvres from 5:30PM to 7:30PM
  • All-day coffee, tea, and sodas, with dry snacks from 11AM to 12MN
  • Cocktails and desserts from 5:30PM to 8:30PM
  • Complimentary use of computer workstations with internet access (on a first come first serve basis)
  • Basic Business Centre Services: photocopying, facsimile, printing, and scanning.
Our arrival is still late in the afternoon so my husband went to Sheraton Club and enjoyed the complimentary snacks while waiting for us. I just called my husband when we already got our luggage and from the airport, we arrived at the hotel after 9 minutes. There is a hygiene kit, welcome fruit, and cake.

I prefer this room kasi mas maliwanag but I don’t like the bathroom. Hindi ko talaga type yung mga open, semi-open, see-through or translucent na bathroom. I don’t know if it is already a trend kasi ganyan din experience namin sa Narra Villa of The Farm at San Benito, and Chateau Hestia Room.

I wanted to take a rest but when I checked the time, past 6PM na pala. We don’t want to miss the “Hors d’oeuvres” so we immediately went to the 10th floor.

My son and I only experienced Sofitel Club Millisime and walang hors d’oeuvres doon so we really took our time trying the foods here, I love the hot dishes served in small bowls. I can’t recall the name of each dish, but there is chicken, pork, fish, and beef. Aside from that, there are cold cuts, cheeses, salad, desserts, soup, bread, and drinks.

After our hearty meal, we went back to our room to freshen up and rest. This was our view outside the room.

We overslept so it was almost 9AM when we arrived at S Kitchen, good thing that the buffet breakfast ends at 10:30AM so we still have time to enjoy the breakfast. Since we were late, may mga food na naubos na, like champorado na naghintay pa ako ng refill. Also, I was looking forward to “Paluto” that I’ve experienced three years ago pero wala na pala ngayon. Anyway, we still enjoyed our breakfast at the S Kitchen, ang tagal ko ng nagcrave sa Filipino Foods.

We went back to our room and we found a birthday cake. This is small compared to their complimentary cake before but no complaint. It is the thought that counts and nahirapan nga kami ubusin yung dati so mas okay yung ganitong size. Masarap din ang chocolate cake nila.

Since we had brunch, busog pa kami for lunch so we just had snacks at Sheraton Club. The buffet spread is limited lang so we ate cookies and fruits, and we had drinks before going to the pool.

Check-out time is 12NN but they allowed us to stay until 4PM so we had time for quick swimming at Vega pool. We had our late lunch at Oori Korean Restaurant, I will blog about that in a separate post. Overall, it was indeed a good birthday staycation. #eatsleepandrepeat

Virtual Recognition

We didn’t have Recognition two years ago, we only had Virtual Graduation last year and this school year, we only had Virtual Recognition. I was expecting that we will have a face-to-face Recognition since the world is starting to go back to normal but I was wrong. Kaya mahirap mag-expect, it will only lead to disappointment.

“When you have expectations, you are setting yourself up for disappointment” - Ryan Reynolds

Moving on, my son got a Red Eagle Certificate so we had a simple celebration at home. I made a Congrats Cake Topper for him. I used Marvel Brothers Font, this is a full-color blocky font with primary-colored lettering and black shadows.

Since there is already color, I just print and cut the letters. I maximized the cardstock paper so I had 3 layers of letters. I assembled and stick them on PVC binding cover. (You can also use acetate).

My son requested chocolate cake and since he likes pizza and chicken, my husband just bought food from Yellow Cab. Ang sad lang ng pizza kasi kulang na lagi sa cheese.

For the chicken, my husband chose the Sweet Soy Chicken flavor. Last time, we chose the Garlic Parmesan flavor pero hindi namin type kasi almost burnt yung chicken. So we’re happy na okay na yung Sweet Soy Chicken.

Books I’ve Read in Year 2021

There was a point in my life when I love to read inspirational books. I buy books especially when it is on sale. Unfortunately, I stopped buying and reading books when I became hooked on Korean Drama series. Ang dami ko ng napanood na Korean Drama and feeling ko yun na lang laman ng utak ko so when pandemic started I forced myself to read books again. Hehehe!

I started buying ebooks and books when there is a sale. My husband gifted me a Kindle Paperwhite too last year so pressure lalo na magbasa. My goal is to read at least one book per month so 12 books in one year. And so far, naachieve ko naman siya last year, though yung ibang books kasi dito, maninipis lang and may pangkids din. But I still feel happy because I was able to read books again.

I will highlight those books that I like for the year 2021 and if I have time, I will blog my favorite books in a separate post.

I still have a lot of unfinished books from last year and I hope I can finish them before the end of the year 2022. :)

Father's Day Celebration

Several months had passed already since we had our beach trip so my husband was planning for our last-minute summer getaway. He was already inquiring to different beach resorts last month but he did not book yet, saka na lang daw kapag nakauwi na kami sa Pilipinas. Good thing that he did not reserve a room because my two boys got sick so we’re stuck at home. Yung Father’s Day celebration namin sa beach, nauwi sa bahay.

Anyway, I’ve been away for the last three months so I really miss crafting. Sa aking pagbabalik, I made printable card and cake topper. I saw this card design on Cricut Design Space (free for a limited time) so I used the design to make a folded card. This is just a simple project, I just print and cut using white cardstock. “Of all the things a Dad can be…you are definitely the very best”

For the Father’s Day Cake Topper, I downloaded this 3D Layered Dad Tool Design SVG. This design has 4 layers so I used white cardstock, smooth white glitter cardstock, and blue glitter cardstock. I resized the SVG file, cut and assembled it. I told my husband that I already made the cake topper, siya na bahala sa cake. Hehehe!

We did not have any celebration on that day so delayed celebration na lang. Last week we were in Makati, and I told my husband that I wanted to try Wild Flour Cafe. My husband already ate here and nacurious ako sa food. My husband agreed but after our bank errands, nagbago isip ko and sabi ko uwi na lang kami. Hehehe!

But since I don’t have time to cook for lunch, we dropped by at Southwoods Mall before went home. Konti lang naman choices na restaurant so nauwi na naman kami sa Kuya J restaurant. Nakakatawa lang kasi yung last na punta ko (Confirmation Day) dito sa mall, ito rin kinainan namin. Hehehe!

Pero one thing I noticed, paiba-iba yung menu nila. There are foods kasi na nakain ko sa kanila before pero bigla nawawala sa menu. I’m not sure kung depende sa branch yung menu or nabago na talaga. So far 3 branches pa lang naman napuntahan namin; NuvaliSM Sta Rosa and Southwoods Mall.

Well, good news para sa mga single, meron na Kuya J Solo Meals, the rate starts at PHP199. We’re a family of three pero iba-iba gusto namin so we decided to order the new meals. We ordered Kare-Kare PHP309, Bulalo PHP329, and Chicken BBQ PHP239. The solo meals include 4 side dishes, a cup of rice, and an ice tea drink.

The four side dishes are TCO Salad (Tomato, Cucumber, and Salad), Binagoongang Kangkong, Kropek and Kamote Chips. Complete meal na talaga. Ang cute din ng presentation of food, lalo na yung Bulalo may pitcher of soup pa.
