How to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa with Biometrics in the Philippines

Our family loves to travel but we prefer a visa-free country to save money because we all know that visa application is not cheap. And if ever we apply, there is no guarantee that our visas will be granted because it will always depend on our documents and who will review our applications. All we can do is pray and hope that our documents are enough to prove that we are genuine tourists and we have strong ties in our country.

As of this writing, Australia is the third visa country that we applied for as a family. My husband has other business visas but for our own family trip, we only experienced Japan Visa and Schengen Visa.

When my husband purchased our Manila - Sydney- Manila flight during the Great Mabuhay Miles Getaway Promotion, I started reading blogs and articles regarding the Australian Visa Tourist Application. In my mind, everything is easy because I can do it online but I spoke too soon because…

1. I was surprised when I needed to answer 20 pages.

2. We are applying as a family but we need individual applications. I can only create a group to inform them that this is a group process.

Is this application being lodged as part of group applications?

Group ID: Group Name:
Group Type: Family

3. Biometric and Health Assessments are needed. Good thing that we only need biometrics.

4. I need to scan all the entry/exit stamps of our expired and current passports plus visa documentation. Sa ibang countries kasi, current passport lang ang need.

And because of this, it took me two days to finish our application forms, including the scanning, uploading, and attaching of documents. It was kinda stressful because I only had limited time. We need to submit our applications and schedule our biometrics before my husband’s business trip. I am just thankful that we don’t need to submit our passports.

Despite the stress that I experienced, I can still say that applying for an Australian Tourist Visa is not hard as long as you are not in a hurry.

How to Apply for an Australian Tourist Visa (Visitor Visa 600)

Visitor Visa (subclass 600) is a tourist visa stream that allows you to visit Australia as a tourist, go on a cruise, or visit your family or friends. They can grant you a stay of 3, 6, or 12 months. Tourist needs to be outside Australia when applying for this type of visa.

Just like our Schengen Visa application, I only create one online account and use it for all our applications. For Australia, you need to create an Immi Account, it is where I fill out forms, attach documents, pay the visa fee, and check the status of our applications.

2 . Click “New Application” and fill in the Application Form

You need to fill in 20 pages but there is no time limit so you can take your time in answering don’t forget to save the form if you are not ready to submit it yet.

3. Upload and Attach Supporting Documents

You can attach up to 60 documents for each person. The site accepts .jpg, .png, .pdf and other type of files. Just make sure that the file is not encrypted or secured PDF files. Also, the file should not be over 5 MB.

Dito ako nastress sa 5MB kasi nascan ko na lahat ng passports ni hubby, ending I can’t attach it because the file is over 5MB so I have to repeat it again. I reduced the pixels and I scanned per passport na lang.

Documents may vary depending if you are employed, unemployed, a student etc. You can see the required and recommended documents after you fill out the form. We just submitted the documents that we have.

Documents that we submitted: (Employed, Housewife, and Student)

I uploaded JPG and PDF files only. The site knows if you attach encrypted files or secured files, I experienced this when I attached our travel insurance, nag-error yung file so I had to print and scan our travel insurance so I could attach it.

The “Other Documents” option will appear after you paid your visa. So just in case there are documents you want to add or if they are requesting more documents, you can attach them here.

Note: It is not advisable to purchase your plane ticket and travel insurance before applying for your visa. Actually, first time namin itong ginawa, we just took a risk kasi sayang ang sale. Pero ayaw ko na ulitin kasi super worry naman ako habang naghihintay ng decision, natatakot ako na masayang ang pera kung hindi granted.

4. Pay Application Fee

You can pay per application or group application. I chose the latter so I paid AUD570 + AUD7.98 = AUD577.98. The amount may vary depending on the foreign exchange, PHP21,982.54 is the amount posted on our credit card.

Visitor Visa (600) - AUD190 + Tax (per person)

After payment, we received our receipt and instructions about biometrics.

To schedule your biometric, visit the VFS Global site. I am glad that I can book a group appointment. You only have two weeks to finish your biometric.

Don’t forget to bring:
1. Electronic or printed copy of the appointment letter as proof of your appointment date.
2. Passport
3. Electronic or printed copy of the Biometric letter issued by the Department of Home Affairs, Australia showing your personal details and a Visa Lodgement Number (VLN) to enable enrolment of your Biometric.
4. Biometric Service fee

Don Chino Roces Ave Extension,
Makati City 1231,
Manila, Philippines

The schedule that we got is already evening. Once you arrive at the VFS office, the staff will check your appointment and will give you a number. If I remember it right, there are seven booths so mabilis naman and natapos kami in 40 minutes.

After Biometric, I clicked the “I confirmed I have provided information as requested” and our application changed to “Further Assessment” status.

Australian Visa Processing Times

The global processing time for Australian Tourist Visa (600) is about a month and according to their website, you need to apply at least 4 months before your intended travel date. So it is better to apply as early as possible because you cannot predict how early or late they will finalize your visa applications.

Processing Time

25% of applications: 3 Days
50% of applications: 7 Days
75% of applications: 13 Days
90% of applications: 22 Days

Some people are lucky that they got their visa, minutes or hours after their biometrics but based on our experience, we got our visas on Day 13. Fortunately, we all received the visa grants email on the same day at a few-minute intervals. Some people even though they applied as a group, they received the visa decisions at different times.

We did not apply for multiple entry but we got multiple entry for one year with 3 months stay per visit. Yey!

Day 1 (Friday)- Submit/Lodge the Application Form
Pay the Visa Fee
Book Biometric Appointment
Day 4 (Monday) - Biometric Appointment
Day 13 (Thursday) - Visa Granted - Multiple Entry for 1 year - 3 Months Stay

Update: August 2024

It was only last year when we applied for an Australian Tourist Visa so I was surprised when I learned about the few changes so I decided to update this blog post based on our experience this year. The step-by-step guide is the same.

1. Create an ImmiAccount
2. Click “New Application” and fill in the Application Form
3. Upload and Attach Supporting Documents

Since this is our second time applying for an Australian Tourist Visa, I noticed that the Evidence of Previous Travel is not part of the Required Document so it saved me time because I no longer need to scan the following.

Entry and exit of expired passport
Entry and exit of current passport
Visa documentation

Documents that we submitted: (Employed, Housewife, and Student)

Required Documents

Travel Document
Passport Profile Page

Evidence of Leave

Last year, I added my son's Certificate of Enrollment on Evidence of Planned Tourism Activities. Wala kasi ito sa option. It is not part of the required or recommended documents, but I always include this on our visa application for home ties.

I lodged our visa application this year, paid the visa fee, and scheduled our Biometric. Then I went back to the Attach Documents and looked for the “Other Documents” field and I attached these documents before our Biometric Schedule.

Other Documents
School ID
School Registration Form + Enrollment Receipt
Certificate of Enrollment

4. Pay the Application Fee

Visitor Visa (600) - AUD195 + Tax (per person)

May price increase na agad, we paid AUD593.19 or PHP23,183.95 for 3 persons.

5. Schedule your Biometric Appointment at VFS Global

Itong VFS ang marami changes, as in nagulat ako kasi last year kahit gabi pwede kami magpaschedule so no need na mag-absent sa school or magVL pa ni hubby but this year nagbago yung office hours nila, 7:30 to 3PM na lang. Pwede magwalk-in for additional PHP1,000. Pwede din magpaschedule outside working hours pero PHP2,350 ang rate. In addition, new office address na rin.

Business Hours

Cebu/Manila/Davao - Monday to Friday | 07:30AM - 3:00PM

Service Fees:

AP Reyes St. Brgy. Carmona,
Theater Drive Circuit Makati,
Makati City, 1207 Philippines

We can book our Biometric the following day pero dahil nagtitipid ako, doon lang kami sa working hours so medyo natagalan kami sa Biometric kasi naghintay pa ko ng half day schedule ng anak ko.

On the day of our appointment, the staff checked our appointment letter, passport, and Biometric letter then she handed our documents to one of the staff and hinatid na kami ng staff diretso sa booth. Mas malaki office ngayon compared sa Ecoplaza and mas marami booths, I think mga 20.

Our appointment was at 2PM and we arrived at 1:31PM and were finished after 20 minutes. Nagkataon na walang pila nung dumating kami. We also received an email notification that our Biometrics have been completed.

Australian Visa Processing Times

Last year we got our visas on the same day but this year, even though we applied as a group, we received our visa grants on different days so kinabahan ako ng slight dito.

Day 1- Submit/Lodge the Application Form | Pay the Visa Fee | Book Biometric Appointment
Day 5 - Biometric Appointment
Day 6 - Visa Granted (Husband)
Day 12 - Visa Granted (Me and Son)

How to Apply for Norway Schengen Visa in the Philippines

This was my third time applying for Schengen Visa at VFS Global Norway but every time I apply for a visa, there are always minor changes so I always feel like a first-timer. The visa fee is now 80EURO compared to 55EURO and the Royal Norwegian Embassy is now located in Bangkok Thailand so visa processing takes time.

I am applying for a Visitors Visa because my mom lives in Norway so if you have family or relatives in Norway, this post might be helpful.

Steps in Applying for Schengen Visa

1. Identify visa type

Visitor's Visa

A visitor's visa allows you to stay in Norway or other countries in the Schengen area for up to 90 days over a period of 180 days.

Citizens of the Philippines must apply for a visitor’s visa. The Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok is responsible for processing applications from the Philippines.

I downloaded the checklist here, this is the only checklist I used so I was shocked when I found this checklist while I’m writing this blog, I’m not sure if this is already available when I downloaded the checklist last January. Upon checking, I was not able to submit the C-Visa Questionaire, good thing that our visas are still approved. (Update: My brother informed me na yung first checklist ang tinatanggap ng VFS hindi yung may C-Visa Questionaire)

“Print and answer all questions in the questionnaire for C-visa and submit it with your visa application.”

I’m a full-time mom so I submitted the following documents

Original passport + printed copy of bio pages and used pages of passport
Passport photo
Cover letter from the Application Portal Norway
Travel medical insurance
Reservation of a round-trip flight ticket
Proof of funds (UDI forms)
Proof of ties (PSA Marriage Cert, Birth Certificate of my son, and Bank Certificate)
Invitation Letter
Proof of relationship (PSA Birth Certificate)
Copy of the reference’s passport

For my son who is still a student, I added

Copies of both parents’ IDS with signature
Legalized letter of parental consent (traveling without parents or one parent only)
Certificate of Enrollment
Copy of School ID
My PSA Birth Certificate

2. Begin your application

Go to UDI Application Portal to register and submit your application form. You can apply for individual or group applications.

3. Book an appointment

“If you are part of a family or group, you’ll have to book individual appointments for each member of the family or group.”

After submitting our visa form online, we can already book an appointment. There is no group appointment so we have to book individually but we can submit our application together. I did not check the appointments before because, from my past experiences, lagi may available slots. Unfortunately, last month, I waited for more than two weeks before we were able to submit our documents and because of that, nadelay din visa namin.

Create an account and choose your schedule.
Download and print the Letter of Appointment from your registered email.

4. Pay your fees

Pay your visa application online (Visa and Mastercard)

80EURO - Visitor’s Visa for adults and children over 12 years old
40EURO - Visitor’s visa for children between 6 and 12 years old
NO FEE - Visitor’s visa for all children under the age of 6

Download and print the receipt.

I paid 160EURO or PHP9,642.97

5. Visit the Visa Application Center

There are 2 Visa Application Centers for Norway, one in Makati and one in Cebu. Of course, I chose Makati. We arrived before 7AM, the office was still closed but the line was already long. From the time na tinawag kami, it took us more or less an hour sa pagsubmit ng documents and biometrics.

For my past applications, I only paid for VFS fee but now, ang dami na additional and the staff did not ask if for pick up or deliver, he just gave me LBC shipping form so I guess it is mandatory already because of COVID19. Pero Yung SMS, sinama pa rin niya sa babayaran ko, nakatotal na agad sa receipt.

PHP1502 - VFS Service Fee
PHP175 - Courier Fee (Bangkok)
PHP140 - SMS
PHP370 - LBC Courier
Total is PHP4374 (2 persons)

Visa processing is 15 calendar days starting from the time the embassy received the documents.

6. Track your application

For our previous two applications, we did not avail of the SMS but we received an email update that our visas are already approved and we can already pick up our passports. I can also track our visa application online.

On the day that we submitted our applications, we received an email stating “Your visa application ref no. 123 will be forwarded to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok on the next working day from ___." But after that, I no longer receive any updates. I paid PHP140 x 2 for the SMS but I’m not getting real-time updates and the online tracking is useless too.

After 10 days of no SMS update, I finally emailed VFS regarding the status of our visa and after few hours, sunud-sunod dumating yung email update. Ang weird lang kasi pare-pareho yung date, kung anong date ako nag-email.

Your visa application ref no. 123 has been forwarded to the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok on ___
Your processed application ref no. 123 has been dispatched from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangkok on ___ to VFS Norway Visa Application Center in Manila.
Your processed application ref no. 123 is now ready for pickup at VFS Norway Visa Application Center in Manila.

So lahat ng yan, nangyari sa loob ng isang araw. I was happy that our passports arrived in Manila but I was disappointed because we paid for SMS update but there was no real-time update. Kung hindi pa ako nag-email, hindi ko malalaman status.

After a few hours, VFS replied “Please be informed that as per VFS Norway Visa Application Centre, Your passport arrives today at VFS Global Center and is handover to LBC Express. Please visit the LBC website for tracking.”

7. Collect your passport

I started tracking our package pero nakatulog na lang ako wala pa rin status sa LBC but when I woke up, I was surprised na nasa area na namin yung package and I received our package within the day.

For our past two applications, we usually received an email regarding the visa decision, so alam na namin kung approve or hindi but this time, nalaman ko na lang nung natanggap namin passport. We got an approved visa and we got a MULTIPLE SCHENGEN VISA but when I checked the date, multiple lang siya within our travel dates (3 Months). Toinks. Akala ko pa naman makakatipid na ko sa pag-apply ng Schengen Visa.

Processing time is 15 days, we got our passport after 11 days while my cousin received her passport after 14 days. So matagal siya compared sa dati nung nasa Philippines pa yung embassy ng Norway.

How to Apply for Multiple Entry Japan Tourist Visa

This blog post is sitting in my draft for more than a year already. I was so excited to share this last year because we got a Multiple Entry Japan Tourist Visa but my excitement was gone when COVID19 news broke. We’ve been planning to go back to Japan so we can experience Spring, Fall, or Winter season there.

In fact, as early as January, I was searching for accommodation and planning for our Osaka-Kyoto-Nara-Kobe trip. We were planning to visit a travel expo so we can score a cheap flight to Japan but all plans were canceled and until now, traveling is still unachievable. I don’t know when everything would be back to normal. I don’t know if we can still use this Japan Tourist Visa because, since last year, tourist visas are suspended.

Whether we can use this or not, I will just post this to remind me na minsan sa aking buhay nagkaroon ako ng Multiple-Entry Visa. Hehehe! Last October 2019, we visited World Travel Expo and we availed the Japan Visa Processing promo for PHP600 from PHP1,200. It was a good deal already compared to our first Japan Tourist Visa application.

Japan Visa is free but you cannot apply directly to Japan Embassy, so you need to look for a travel agency to process your visa application. The processing fee depends on the agency that you will choose. You can check the list of authorized travel agencies here. For our first application, sinabay kami ni hubby sa pag-apply niya ng Japan Business Visa through their company accredited travel agency. Unfortunately, their agency is not part of the authorized agency of the Japan Embassy so nadoble tuloy bayad namin because we paid 2 travel agencies, more story on this blog

Anyway, we realized that it is so easy to apply for Japan Visa as long as you have complete requirements but of course, the visa is still subject to their approval. Here is the list of visa requirements for a Japan Tourist Visa from H.I.S. Travel Agency. They sent the list of requirements and forms that we need (via email). We just printed and filled out the forms.

Requirements for Japan Tourist Visa

Philippine Passport
Visa Application Form (A4 Size Paper) Download the application here
2x2 Photo with White Background
Original PSA Birth Certificate
Original PSA Marriage Certificate
Daily Itinerary in Japan (A4 Size Paper)
Original Bank Certificate
Photocopy of Income Tax Return, Form 2316 or 1701
HIS Authorization Letter (A4 Size, signed per applicant)
Request for Multiple Entry (optional, not guaranteed)

Note:

A. Since I’m a housewife, the staff asked me to write a letter of explanation why I don’t have an ITR or Income Tax Return.

B.They asked my husband to sign the Letter of Guarantee for me and my son.

“I will guarantee the following items regarding the above-mentioned applicant’s entry into Japan:

1. Expenses for the applicant’s stay in Japan
2. Return travel expenses
3. Compliance with Japanese laws and regulations”

C. This was our second Japan Tourist Visa application but they still require us to submit the original PSA birth certificate and marriage certificate. Ganun daw talaga if you are applying as a family.

D. They require us to submit the passport where our Japan Visas were issued. So we submitted our old and new passports.

E. This time, we submit a letter of request for a Multiple Entry Visa, this was part of the forms that were sent to us so print lang din namin. We did not do this during our first application, hindi rin kami aware na pwede pala magrequest.

January 6, 2020 - submitted our application at H.I.S Travel Agency
January 7, 2020 - visa approved; Multiple Entry for 5 years
January 8, 2020 - passport our ready for pick-up

Japan Tourist Visa Expense

Photo PHP255 (PHP85 per person)
PSA PHP720 (3 Birth Certificate and 1 Marriage Certificate)
Japan Visa Processing PHP1800 (P600 per head)
Bank Certificate Free (use our voucher)

Total: P2,275

We spent PHP2,275 for something that we haven’t used but I’m hoping and praying na in the future, we can still use this. May 4 years pa naman na natitira. Hehehe!

Understanding your Visa: How to Read the Visa Sticker

Applying for a visa is a nerve-racking experience especially if this would be your first time or if you are not a frequent traveler. I always feel nervous every time I applied for a visa and fortunately, all my visas were approved. I feel happy even they only give me a single-entry visa, it is better than a visa denied.

Few months ago, we applied for a Schengen Visa via VFS Global Norway and I’m the one who claimed for our passport. The staff gave me the envelope and advised me to check the information so I opened the envelope and immediately checked the Visa Sticker.

It is very important to check if all the information is correct.

1. Check if your name is spelled correctly.
2. Check if the passport number in the visa sticker is the same as the one in your passport.
3. Check if the plane ticket or reservation corresponds with the entry and exit date indicated on the visa sticker.
4. A visa is issued for one, two or multiple entries, in accordance with the document need for entries.

* If you plan to leave and re-enter the Schengen area during your stay, you will get a visa with two entries. If you have documented a need for multiple entries during the validity period, your visa is issued multiple entries.

* If the information regarding your name, passport number or travel period is wrong, please inform the Embassy immediately, so that any errors can be corrected.

How to Read the Visa Sticker

Duration of Stay - DAYS indicates the number of days you may stay in the Schengen area. The days should be counted from the date you enter the Schengen area (the entry stamp) to the date you exit the Schengen area (exit stamp).

* Based on my visa sticker, I applied for 60 days and they gave me 60 days.

The period of time between ”FROM… UNTIL” is usually longer than the number of days printed in the “DURATION OF STAY” field. The difference in period is meant to give you the flexibility to plan your entry into and exit from the Schengen area, but your stay in the Schengen area must never exceed the exact number of days in the “DURATION OF STAY….. DAYS”. No matter how many days yo have stayed in the Schengen area, you must leave no later than the date printed in the “UNTIL” field.

* Based on my visa sticker, they gave me 75 days from the day of my flight.

Controls at the border

You short-stay visa allows you to travel to the Schengen States, but the final control of the entry conditions is done when you cross the Schengen border. A visa does not automatically entitle you to cross the Schengen border. It is therefore recommended that you carry with you the copies of documents which you presented when you applied for the visa ex. Invitation letter, travel confirmations, or other documents stating the purpose of your stay. This will help to make the border control procedure easier and avoid delays at the border.

* I agree with this because, on my third visit to Norway, the Immigration Officer asked for my Invitation Letter and Return Ticket. For my two visits, IO only asked me about our purpose and how long are we going to stay and she stamped our passport but on my third visit, she asked for documents. So it really depends on the IO, it is better to be ready with your documents to avoid delays and long lines.

Note: You must follow the period of stay allowed by your visa. If you need to stay longer, please contact the local police for further advise well in advance of the visa expiration date. Persons who wish to stay longer than 90 days during any period of 180 days should apply for a residence permit from the Philippines.

If you apply for a residence permit while in the Schengen area, this deemed a violation of the conditions of your visa approval. Even if a residence permit is granted, it may result in future visa application/s being refused.

Note: In my case, I add 3 applicants but I was having a hard time booking an appointment. The date shows an available slot but I’m getting an error so we called VFS office and the staff said, magbook daw ng paisa-isa. Pagsasabayin na lang daw kami pagpasa ng requirements.

I followed it and I was able to book 9:45AM and 11AM appointments. I received the email and I printed the appointment letter.

Step 6: Hand in application and documents in person

Norway Visa Application Centre, VFS Global
Ground Floor,
Ecoplaza Building Don Chino Roces Avenue,
Makati City, Metro Manila
Website: http://www.vfsglobal.com/norway/philippines/
Helpline: +63 2 790 49 02

Note: Go to VFS Global Norway and submit all your documents. The guard will ask for your passport and appointment letter. He/She will give you a form, fill out the form and give it to counter 6-8 (Norway). Wait for the staff to call your name. The staff will just review your documents, ask a few questions and then pay for the VFS fee.

Aside from the visa fee, VFS will collect a service fee of Php 1,530.00 for each visa application. VFS accepts payment in cash at the Norway counter in VFS during your appointment date.

Total: PHP4590

Processing Time: 15 Days after the submission of documents.

Note: The staff informed us about the 15 days processing time. So delikado si hubby because in less than two weeks may biyahe na siya. My husband has an upcoming business trip to USA so he asked if he can pull out the passport just in case matagalan pa ang decision. We added a letter and plane ticket sa application form niya. The staff said we can borrow the passport naman pero sa Norway Embassy daw kukunin.

Step 7: Biometrics

After payment of Visa Fee, you will have your Biometrics. We had our biometrics 23 months ago pero nagbiometrics pa rin kami. Take photo and give fingerprints. No fingerprints for my 10-year old son. Medyo matagal kami ngayon, more than an hour bago matapos.

Step 8: Pick-up your passport from the Visa Application Centre

Bring your official receipt and a valid ID. Claim your passport between 2PM to 4PM only. If a representative will pick up the passport on your behalf, please hand in the following:

Official receipt
A signed authorization letter with complete details
Original valid ID with a photocopy

Note: We all went to VFS Norway to pick up our passports but because of the expensive parking fee, kami na lang ng anak ko bumaba. Hehehe! So my husband gave me an authorization letter and valid ID.

We arrived before 1PM and claiming of the passport started at 2PM so we waited outside the VFS office. At 1:30PM, the guard allowed us to enter just to register and they get our official receipt to secure our slot. At 2PM, they let us in na and true enough, kami naman ng anak ko nauna tawagin. I gave the authorization letter and a valid ID. You have to open the package and check your visa if everything is okay. Then fill out the form and that’s it.

Our Experience in Applying for Schengen Visa Via VFS Global Norway

The first month of the year and I was busy preparing for our Schengen Visa Application. I thought it would be less stressful because this would be my second time applying but I was wrong. When I checked the requirements, that is the only time I realized that I don’t have a PSA copy of our birth certificate and marriage certificate. Ang dami kong stress sa pag-complete ng requirements.

1. I went to SM Business Center to request a PSA copy and nakatatlong balik ko just to claim my documents, ang one-week timeframe naging two weeks. So it is better to order online if you need it asap.

Read: 3 Ways to Get Your PSA Birth Certificate, Marriage Certificate and CENOMAR

2. I asked my husband to get a Certificate of Employment and since we need the original copy, we waited for the papers from Singapore.
3. My husband requested for Bank Certificate and was advised to claim it the following day. We claimed it after two days and guess what? Doon pa lang niya ginawa. Nakakaloka ang bank staff, sabi niya i-claim na lang the following day, after two days na nga kami bago bumalik tapos hindi naman pala niya ginawa. It took her more than an hour just to finish our bank certificate. I don’t understand bakit ang tagal nila iprocess, one piece of paper lang naman yun. Nastress ako kasi I requested bank certificate na rin though sa ibang bank and within 15 minutes, nakuha ko na. Hindi na ko pinabalik pa. Now I know na iba-iba rin pala ang process per bank.
4. I went to my son’s school and paid the tuition (downpayment) for the school year 2019-2020 so I can get a Certificate of Enrollment. I was so surprised when the school staff said, balikan mo na lang tomorrow. What? Last time, nakuha ko naman agad pero ngayon pinabalik din ko.
5. I asked my mom to send me the documents that we need for our Schengen Visa application such as a Letter of Invitation, a Copy of her passport, and UDI Guarantee, and this time, she sent the documents one week earlier but I was disappointed kasi wala rin nangyari because the documents arrived late, almost 3 weeks compared sa 2 weeks nung 2017.

That’s why I am hesitant in applying for a visa.

1. It is hard to prepare and complete the requirements.
2. It is so expensive because you need to pay for all the requirements that you need, pay the visa fee and even the VFS fee.
3. There is no assurance that your visa will be granted so iyak na lang pag denied, sa dami ng gastos.

It took me 3 weeks to complete the requirements. Anyway, that is the only tedious part because after you complete your requirements, everything is easy na.

January 28, 2019 (Monday)

1. I received my mom's documents.
2. I submit our application form online.
3. Pay the Visa Fee
4. Book an Appointment
5. Buy travel insurance online
6. Prepare and arrange all the documents

January 29, 2019 (Tuesday) - we went to VFS to submit our documents, pay VFS fee and do biometrics.
February 1, 2019 (Friday) - we received an email and text regarding our visa application
February 4, 2019 (Monday) - we claimed our passport.
“The Royal Norwegian Embassy has the pleasure of informing you that your application for a Schengen visa has been approved. Please pick up your passport at Norway Visa Application Centre, VFS Global between 2pm and 4pm from the next working day if submitted in VFS Global Manila and two (2) working days later if submitted in VFS Global Cebu”
It was our second time applying for Schengen Visa and they still gave us a single entry visa. Though we only ask for single-entry, of course, I’m hoping multiple-entry na lang ibigay so we don’t have to spend a visa fee every time we are going to visit my mom. But anyway, we’re still happy because the visa is approved. My son and I got 60 days and my husband got 24 days, finollow lang talaga nila yung travel insurance and plane ticket.

How to Apply for Schengen Visa via VFS Global Norway

Update December 2019: Starting February 2020, you can now apply six months prior to your Europe trip. The visa fee increases to 80Euro from 60Euro. For regular travelers with good travel history, possible multiple entry visas. You can read more information here.

The first time we went to Norway, we only applied for Norwegian Visa and fortunately, we were granted 3 months visa. Then the second time we applied for a Norwegian visa, the Norway Embassy advised us to reapply by May because they are only releasing Schengen Visa.

At that time, we have no idea about Schengen Visa and we don’t want to reapply again because we need to prepare for our enrollment. We were already in college so we need to enroll on the scheduled date. In addition, it is very impractical to go to Norway for a few weeks because airfare is not cheap. Good thing my mom was able to refund our plane ticket.

That was the last time we planned to visit Norway. after that, we were so busy with our work, then we got married and the rest is history. But a few years ago, my son wanted to visit Norway because he wants to experience snow. So it became my goal to revisit Norway with my family.

Then last year, out of the blue, my mom asked me when is the start of summer break so she can book her flight. She said we can travel with her when she goes back to Norway. I was shocked and I said, “Wait lang, wala pa kami pamasahe”. Then she said, “sagot ko na si Ethan”. Yehey, of course, alangan magpaiwan pa ako, so we started saving for our airfare and visa application.

Since it’s been years since my last visa application, I was surprised when I checked the requirements needed. Ang dami pala, may travel insurance and may visa fee na. At that time, parang gusto ko na magback out sa laki ng expense, lol. Namamahalan na nga ko sa Japan Visa namin before, x3 pala sa Schengen Visa. Anyway, I started preparing the requirements 3 months before our intended trip.

Experience with VFS Global Norway

Our scheduled appointment was 8AM and we fell in line at 7:30AM. I just showed them the cover letter and passport, then they gave us a number. Then we went inside the office, they called our number before 8AM. The staff checked our requirements, one at a time.

She advised that the processing time is 15 calendar days, and we will receive a text or email regarding the application. Then she asked if we want to avail of the courier service but I chose pick-up para mas tipid. Then she asked for the VFS service fee which is P1405 x 3. I waited for the receipt and we went to the biometric section.

Step 7: Biometric Data Registration. The staff took our pictures and fingerprints. No fingerprints for my 8-year-old son. We were finished as early as 8:15AM.

After that, I’m hoping and praying that our visa will not be denied, or else I will cry a bucket of tears because I spent P20k+ on this Schengen Visa application.

Feb 21, appointment date
Feb 23, I received an email and SMS that my visa was approved so I checked my son’s email and I asked my husband if he received an email too.
Feb 24 onwards - you can pick up the passport at VFS Global from 2 to 4PM.

Yehey, two days processing only. Insert happy dance. We got a Single Entry Schengen Visa. My son and I got 60 days and hubby got 16 days. We applied for 47 days and 12 days' stay. The visa was issued in accordance with the roundtrip flight ticket reservation and travel medical insurance submitted along with the application.

Step 8: Collect your passport from the Visa Application Centre by bringing your official receipt and a valid ID.

If a representative will pick up the passport on your behalf, please hand in the following:
Official receipt
Copy of your valid ID
Signed authorization letter with complete details
Original valid ID of the representative

Note:

1. I waited for my mom’s UDI Guarantee form before I paid our visa application. I already accomplished the online application form but I did not submit it until I got the UDI guarantee form.
2. I bought our Travel Medical Insurance from Malayan Insurance. Applied online and paid via credit card. After few minutes, you will receive your travel medical insurance in your email.
3. My husband called KLM for booking reservations. The booking is only good for 48 hours. Yes, we submitted an expired booking but still, visas were all approved. If you want you can book your ticket the day before your appointment.

How to Apply for Japan Tourist Visa if you have Philippines Passport

Our family loves to travel but if you are an old follower of this blog, you will notice that we only visit those countries that do not require a visa. We always travel on a shoestring so applying for a visa is still an additional cost. There are so many countries that Filipinos can travel to without a need for visa application.

How to Apply for Multiple Entry Japan Tourist Visa

In addition, I’m so scared that my visa will be denied. I dislike wasted time, effort, and money for visa application. But I cannot deny that there are countries that I really want to visit that requires visa including Japan.

Japan is on my bucket list because I want to experience Cherry Blossoms but I was not able to experience it because my husband’s training was rescheduled. It was supposed to be April 4-6, then it was moved to April 25-27 but because of the Golden Week, it was rescheduled again. So no more Sakura for us but of course I still want to visit Japan.

My husband sent me the list of requirements for Japan Tourist Visa and I immediately checked the list. I was sad at first because we need NSO birth certificate and marriage certificate that is valid within the year. Thank God that the training was rescheduled so I have enough time to prepare the requirements.

Our Experience in Applying for Japan Tourist Visa

April 19: My husband submitted the requirements in their travel agency. He got an email a few days after, the travel agency was asking for his Income Tax Return, maybe because I did not submit ITR. My husband was applying for Business Visa and ITR was not on his list.
April 26: He submitted the ITR.
April 28: He had a personal appearance (interview), it is a requirement for Business Visa. The agency put our application in one envelope even we are applying for a different visa.
May 3: My husband was advised that our passports are ready for pick-up. He advised the staff to deliver it to his office.
May 4: We got our passports. Visa approved. Yehey!

Note: Japan Visa is FREE but visa applications must be made through agencies accredited by Consulate of Japan. Check it here

The handling fee depends on the travel agency, in our case napamahal kami. My husband submitted our requirements to their company accredited travel agency, then the agency submitted the requirements in Friendship Tours and Resorts Corporation.

So when I learned about this, I told my husband, “Ako na lang kaya mag-apply, sayang yung bayad kahit ako na magbayad ng Business Visa mo mas makakamura pa rin tayo.” Sobrang mahal ng handling fee, libre nga lang Japan Visa. But my husband didn’t like the idea na hiwalay pa pagprocess and he reminded me na first time ito, sige ka baka madeny pa. He even said, wala na ko time mag-asikaso pa, may schedule interview na ko. Ok fine, lunok na lang sa gastos.

Good thing that we are all approved, so I immediately searched for cheap airfare Manila to Narita since I did not like the Manila to Haneda flight time. Yes, we applied for Japan Visa without a plane ticket. Visa is valid from May 2 to Aug 2, 2016 (3 months)

Visa Application Expense

P255 - picture
P100 - bank certificate
P1,050 - NSO birth certificate (2) and marriage certificate (1)
P2,400 - handling fee of Friendship Tours and Resorts Corporation (P1,200 x 2)
P3,360 - handling fee of (company accredited travel agency (P1,680 x 2)

Total damage is P7,165 for 2 pax, kung ako nag-ayos P3805. If ever we will go back to Japan, ako na mag-apply para mas tipid.

Tip: You can also take advantage of the sale at Travel Expo, travel agencies are offering Japan Visa and Korean Visa for as low as PHP500.

Visa - Free Travel for Filipinos

Gone are the days when traveling is only for rich people and retired ones. Thank you for the cheap airfares, seat sale, and long weekends because it gives us a chance to fly and see the world.

Traveling out of the country is not cheap because we have to pay a travel tax, terminal fee, and visa. Visa is not cheap, aside from the visa fee you need to spend money on other requirements like a photo, bank certificate, travel medical insurance, and other expenses.

The sad part is if your visa is denied you cannot refund the expenses that you have spent. But don’t worry according to Wikipedia; here are the countries that are visa-free for Filipinos and some countries that issue visa-on-arrival with a minimal fee.
