Mother’s Day Celebration in Norway

Time passes quickly and today is already second day of June so bago pa magFather’s Day, let me share our Mother’s Day Celebration in Norway last month. Mother’s Day is a yearly tradition worldwide, but unfortunately, May is not a Mother’s Day here in Norway. They celebrate it every second Sunday of February since 1919. Just like in other countries, they give cards, cakes, pastries, flowers, or handmade crafts. Children surprise their mom with frokost på sengen or breakfast in bed

I think Norway is the only country that celebrates Mother’s Day or Morsdag every February. And because of that, I was not able to celebrate Mother’s Day last May 2017 and May 2019. Well, it is not a big deal if I don’t have any celebration because I already accepted the fact that I won’t have my Mother’s celebration every time I’m here in Norway.

Moving on, last February, I made this Heart with Mama and Happy Mother’s Day Cake Topper; I just gave it to my mom when we arrived here in Norway last March. Nagamit naman sa ice cream. :)

Fast forward to last month, my mom gifted me this “Jesus Calling for Moms” book by Sarah Young.

We also went to Melissa restaurant to celebrate Mother’s Day. There are only a few restaurants in Ørland and one of their go-to restaurants is Melissa. I already tried this restaurant five years ago so I already have an idea of what to order. But still, I checked their online menu and they have an English menu too.

It was past 12NN so the restaurant is not crowded because it is too early for their middag (dinner). Pero hindi ako sanay sa late na kain so I still follow the 11 to 12NN lunch in the Philippines. Gutom na ko kapag ganyan oras. hehehe! They served the softdrinks first, it is 45NOK per glass.

I ordered Black & White; a combination of beef and pork fillet with bearnaise sauce, pepper sauce, creamed potatoes, and vegetables for 335NOK

My mom ordered Crispy Fried Chicken with salad and chips 195NOK

My son ordered from the children’s menu, he ordered the same thing which is Mini Steak 175NOK, it has steak with bearnaise sauce, salad, and chips.

As usual, they have big servings so it is hard to finish the food so we just took our time eating. Good thing that the food is good or else nakakahinayang sa presyo. If I will convert the price kasi nung order ko sa PHP, para na akong nagbuffet sa hotel. Waah! But it was Mother’s Day and my mom’s treat so happy tummy.

Note: They have English Menu in the restaurant too, just request it. The staff will take your order but for payment, you need to go to the counter.

The Journey of Being a Stay at Home Mom, Mom Blogger and Work from Home Mom

"No matter how clueless you may feel right now, pay attention to suggestions and opportunities that suddenly present themselves...Take the first step in the direction toward something that feels right and see where it leads you. And do it NOW" - Jen Sincero

Stay at Home Mom

Time flies so fast and I could not believe that it has been twelve years already since I became a stay-at-home mom or a full-time mom. If you think that being a full-time mom is effortless, then you are definitely wrong. It is not really easy; in fact, it is more stressful than working in the corporate world. When my baby came, my life gradually changed because this time, I had little time for myself. It is really hard to become a wife, a mother, and a maid rolled into one.

Choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is not an easy decision for me because I know that I have to give up my career and future income. But still, I am proud and happy because I am always with my son from the time he was born until now. I feel blessed because not all mothers have the chance to be with their children. I witnessed his first cry, first smile, first laugh, first tooth, first crawl, first step, first word, and other milestones. I am present on special occasions and school events.

The joy of being with my son doesn’t mean that I am always on cloud nine because there are challenges and struggles too. The journey is not simple especially if you are not used to it, there are also times that I cried because I miss working and I want to have my own “me time”. But still, I never regret that I chose this path because even I do not have a salary, I know deep in my heart that it is a rewarding career.

If you are a stay-at-home-mom like me and if there are times that you feel depressed or unfulfilled, don’t worry because it is just normal. You can read the “Professionalizing Motherhood” book by Jill Savage. This book really helps me a lot and makes me realize that being a full-time mom is a valuable career choice and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Stay at home moms do not mean that we are lazy and uneducated because we are not, we just choose our kid/s over career because we feel that this is the best decision for our own family. Instead of focusing on the negative things, look for an opportunity to do the things that you cannot do if you are still working or take advantage of the time to learn new skills.

Work from Home Mom

When I decided to resign from work, I know that it would be difficult for me because I am not used to being at home. Two months after graduation I already started working so choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is really a challenge. I enjoy the first two months because I have time for myself, no work, no more graveyard shift, and no more deadlines. Aside from the usual household chores, most of the time I watch TV, surf the internet, bake cupcakes, and read magazines and pregnancy books.

But after two months I really feel bored because I cannot do anything and I am stuck at home. I have all the time in the world but I cannot go on vacation because I was on bed rest for few months, I do not want to spend money since I no longer have a salary and I have no companions since they are all working.

After three months of not working, I worked as a real estate agent but it is not easy so I stop before giving birth. After several months, I became a mompreneur, I opened my online store (www.mcsstore.multiply.com), it all started because I want to sell my son’s preloved baby stuff and then I decided to resell some products. I closed my online store because I don’t have time for shipping or meet-ups.

I tried my luck and applied to be a ghostwriter. Honestly, I don’t consider myself a writer, because I hate English subjects during my school days. I just took the risk and applied to be a content writer and fortunately I was hired. I have been writing for eight months and I decided to resign because it’s eating my time and I felt guilty because I have no time for my son. It reminded me of the reason why I resigned so I focus on being a stay-at-home mom.

Mom Blogger

Quitting my online job leads me to blogging. I started my own blog where I can freely write and share my story during my free time. This year 2020, Michi Photostory is already 9 years old, I never thought I would come this far. My blog may not be popular and it may not have a lot of followers but I am happy to help those people who stumbled on this blog.

This blog allows me to earn a little through ads, sponsored posts, paid insert links, and other blogging opportunities. The passive income helps me to support my hobbies, buy the things that I want, save, and invest.

7 Things I’ve Learned in 7 Years of Blogging

It is not just about the earnings but this blog is the reason why I learned and developed some skills like graphic design and social media management. These skills allow me to have a freelance career. Yes, I’m back to being a work-from-home mom but this time, I only accept short-term projects or part-time work. I’m still a work in progress because it’s been years since the last time I applied for work. I feel like a fresh college graduate student who has no idea how I'm going to sell myself in a job interview.

In a span of 12 years, I became a stay-at-home mom, mom blogger, and work-from-home mom. I know that my journey as a full-time mom will not end and it is still counting. But I’m thankful to God for opening doors so I can enjoy being a mother and at the same time, earn while I’m in the comfort of my home. I just hope and pray that as I walk this path, I will learn to enjoy and appreciate more my chosen career.

DIY Valentine’s Gift for Kids

Last Monday, I’ve read my son’s assignment notebook and he needs to bring chocolates or flowers on Valentine’s Day. We have chocolates in the fridge but that was our pasalubong from the USA so ayaw ko i-giveaway. Hehehe! So yesterday I just went to the nearest convenience store and bought a pack of chocolate. Of course, I bought our favorite local chocolate which is Flat Tops.

There is no note what they are going to do with those chocolates or flowers but since it is Valentine’s Day, I think they are going to give it away just like last Christmas holiday. They sing Christmas carols and give candies. So since I was in the mood to do some craft, I decided to make DIY Valentine’s Gift Bag.

Just in time, Designer Blog sent me FREE Valentine Printables so I immediately downloaded the Valentine Bag Topper. I bought a Blog Template from their site before and from time to time, I received freebies. Anyway, you can do this project in less than 30 minutes.

Printable Valentine’s Bag Toppers
Small clear plastic or ziplock bag
Chocolates or candies
Stapler Scissors

1. Download, print and cut the Valentine Bag Topper.
2. Divide the chocolates and fill the clear plastic bag. I bought the ziplock bag at Daiso Japan.

3. Fold the Valentine Bag Topper

4. Put the bag topper on top of the ziplock and staple it. Don’t forget to write the name at the back of the bag topper.

That’s it! A simple Valentine gift idea that you can give to your kid’s friends, classmates or teachers.

School Field Trip 2019

Since last year my son kept on telling me that he will join his Field Trip on February and I kept on persuading him not to join his field trip because his daddy will have a business trip on that month. Mahirap magcommute ng madaling araw at gabi and we can visit those places naman kahit hindi field trip.

Then last month, the school gave the Field Trip form and when I read the itinerary, I still convinced my son not to join because I find the fee expensive, PHP1790. Ang mahal para sa Kidzania at National Museum, free lang naman yung ibang place. I even told him, yung P1790 na yun sobra pa sa Kidzania namin dalawa and whole day pa kami pwede magstay.

Kidzania Manila
National Museum of National History
McKinley Grand Canal - Walking Tour
Shrine of Jesus WTL (again)

But he really wanted to join and my husband wants my son to join too so ako lang naman talaga ang kontrabida sa buhay nila. My husband always tells me, iba ang lakad with classmates at iba ang lakad with family. Good thing that my husband is available on that day so hindi ko na problema maghatid at sundo. So I paid the Field Trip fee bago pa magbago isip ko. Hehehe!

P.S. As of this school year, the chaperone is allowed na if grade 1 to 3 ang bata. Grrr! I’ve been waiting for them to change this policy, ngayon pa talaga binago. Grade 4 na anak ko so hindi ko pwede sumama. Hayz…

Fast forward to his field trip…

Me: Ethan, don’t forget your passport ha.
Ethan: How about my credit card?
Me: ATM lang yun.
Hubby: Bakit may passport pa at card, san punta niyan?
Me and Ethan: Kidzania.

Yes, may passport at ATM sa Kidzania. May driving license pa nga. Hehehe! I allowed my son to bring his smartphone in one condition “Take Photos”. While my husband and I were busy at PTAA Travel Tour Expo, my son sent one group photo at Shrine Of Jesus WTL so I felt happy at naalala ang bilin ko. So in my mind, this time marami na pictures anak ko sa Field Trip compared last year.

But I was wrong, after the field trip he showed me his phone gallery and guess what? Yung group photo lang ang may mukha niya. Puro painting sa National Museum. Waah! Nakalimutan na niya ang lahat ng bilin ko when they went to Kidzania Manila. So for the very first time, wala na siya tagakuha ng photos and videos. They stayed here from 1PM to 5PM and he was able to do 6 activities; Bank, Pit Crew Training Center, Cleaning Energy Center, Century Tuna Marine Research Lab, Driving, and Newswriter.  Check our Kidzania experience here.

Anyway, since Mckinley Grand Canal Tour is part of their itinerary. We decided to pick up our son at Venice Grand Canal Mall. So after our travel expo trip, we went straight to Venice. It was my first time there, so maganda naman pala. I remembered our trip in Venetian Hotel in Macau. There is a gondola ride but it is too expensive for my budget, P400 per person. Waah! Okay na ko sa tingin na lang, hehehe!

There are so many restaurants in Venice Grand Canal Mall and I saw the Isla Sugbu Seafood City and we’re supposed to eat here kaso sa pagod namin, gusto na namin umuwi agad. Maybe next time I can finally try this paluto all you can.

3 Things to Look for in a Daycare Center in Oceanside

Choosing the right daycare for your child or children is a very crucial decision that you will have to make. You probably don’t want to choose the first daycare that you see or the cheapest that your budget will allow. There are many factors that you need to consider given that this is a place where you will leave your child for hours. You want a place that would cater to your child's needs and satisfy your demands as a parent, too. To make it easier for you, here are some things you need to look for when looking for an Oceanside daycare center.

1. The staff must be well trained and truly love children

You want the people that will look after your children to be trained. See if they have certifications where they have undergone training on how to deal with a child's needs and personality. Especially if you have a child that may have special needs, you will need someone who can deal with that. You will be paying for their services so you want to make sure that they can deliver. Aside from being trained, you want that whoever will care for your child should actually like children. Children can be a handful, they love to explore, they can be loud, they can make mistakes, and it takes a lot of patience to deal with one how much more several in a room all at once?

2. The facilities must be clean and beautiful

Children can be very visual. If they see something colorful, they will want to spend time in that place. But they can also be easily distracted and have a short attention span, so you want to see if the daycare center can provide several activities that your children can enjoy. Aside from a playground, what other toys and activities do they have for the children? Aside from these, also make sure that the place is clean. Visit the daycare center to see what the place is like when there are lots of kids. How often is the room cleaned, are their bathrooms equipped with soaps, tissue papers, etc? These are just some of the things you need to consider. A public place can have many germs and viruses and you want to make sure your child will not come home from daycare feeling ill.

3. The programs offered should be diverse and appropriate for different age groups

If you have children that are of different ages, a daycare that only offers one program for one age group is not ideal. You want a place where all your children will be engaged with activities and they will not get bored. it would be hard to make an eight-year-old enjoy an activity designed for a two-year-old, so ensure that the programs offered can be enjoyed by them.

Of course, above all these, make sure that your children will be safe. Check their protocols on safety, whether all the staff are trained in first-aid and so on so you will feel safe leaving your kids in their hands.

The Top 5 Push Presents for a New Mom

Carrying a child in the womb is no easy feat and make that nine months. For the mom who is expecting a child, giving birth is only a part of the job. Giving birth, which can only take a moment or not, is not an easy thing to do. It needs a lot of pushing and pain and a lot more pushing. That is why a so-called push present is usually given by the child’s father to the mother to show appreciation for all the pushing she has done to deliver the baby.

A push present is in fact not needed when a baby is born because the baby itself is the greatest gift a mother (and a father) could have, a gift of life. Apparently, some still choose to show their love and gratitude by giving an actual gift. Read on for some push present ideas to surprise a new mom.

1.  A Stylish Diaper Bag

Diaper bags nowadays have many designs to choose from. Look for one which is fashionable but can still carry all the baby and mom’s essential stuff. When having a baby, traveling light is not a possibility. Mom will be utterly grateful to receive something which she can carry in style with a baby in tow. And who knows, it may still look great even after the diaper days are done.

2.  Custom Shirt or Mug

Push presents need not be fairly expensive. The effort that a new mom exerts by carrying the baby for nine months and the intense labor cannot be equaled by any material gift. Thus, a custom shirt or mug which says it all may be a bigger surprise for her than any pricey gift.

3.  Memory Book

We cannot deny that all babies are cute and all new moms dote on their little ones so much so, capturing every moment they possibly can. In this digital age, that is possible, and yet it is still more charming to look at a photo book where you can actually flip the pages. It gives a more intimate feel to it that a new mom would probably relish from baby’s birth to forever. While you are into giving a physical photo book, why not pair it with a camera which can instantly print? Your push presents will be highly appreciated.

4.  A Spa Day Certificate

After the exhaustion of giving birth and carrying a heavy bundle for many months, moms need time for relaxation. More than any material gifts, new moms would probably appreciate some personal time away from mommy duties. Daddy can take care of the baby at home while mom is away on a spa/massage treat.

5.  Jewelry

No need to go overblown when expressing gratitude to your spouse for bringing out your baby into the world. But when you’ve got money to spare, jewelry as a push present is a great way to show your gratefulness. In a way, it also shows how special a new mom is and reminds of the day your little bundle was born each time she wears them.

Now that you have several ideas of what push presents to give, you can now decide which one will be special for your spouse and of course within your budget. A push present need not be costly as you may need to spend on more important things when the baby comes out, just a great gesture that you are eternally grateful.

Summer Vacation is Over, We’re Back to the Philippines

Hello. It’s been two weeks since the last time I updated this blog. I just have no time to blog because I was busy packing and unpacking for our Iceland trip and of course, Philippines. Yes, after two months, summer in Norway is already over and we’re back in the Philippines.

It took me a while to fight my jetlag and adjust to the warm weather. Now, I’m busy preparing for the coming school year and I’m not yet so ready. Good luck to me.

Anyway, before going back to the Philippines, my husband asked me if I’m excited to go home and I said no. No, because…

1. I like the cold weather and fresh air of Norway.
2. I don’t iron clothes in Norway because we always wear a jacket. I dislike this chore. The only time that I ironed clothes was when we were going to Iceland.
3. I will miss the dishwasher of my mom. Ang dali ng buhay pag may dishwasher.
4. I will miss the food, especially salmon, cake and ice cream.
5. I will miss the nature.
6. I will miss the water, yung hindi na bibili ng mineral water because I can drink water from the faucet.
7. Going back home means vacation is really over, as in back to school na kami.
8. I was so scared of flying back home because this was the first time that my son and I would travel without hubby or companion. First na, long haul flight pa, so napaparanoid talaga ko.

But of course, I also miss my husband, it’s been 5 weeks and for the record, this is the longest time that we’ve been away from each other. He always teases me na “Malnourished” na daw siya at wala na siya tagaluto. Hehehe! Well, two weeks lang naman niya na feel na wala kami sa bahay because he was also out of the country for three consecutive weeks.

As I mentioned, I was so nervous flying back home and I really prayed hard that everything would be okay. Our flight was really tiring because we’d been traveling for 3 days.

Thursday Reykjavik Iceland to Trondheim Norway
Friday Trondheim Norway to Oslo Norway
            Oslo Norway to Bangkok Thailand.
Saturday Bangkok Thailand to Manila Philippines

We arrived from Iceland last Thursday and we went straight to Radisson Blu Hotel since we had an early flight the following day. My mom booked this hotel last April. I already blogged about this hotel because my husband stayed here too but I will share my personal experience on a separate post.

Read: Radisson Blu Hotel in Trondheim Norway

Even though the hotel was just a few steps away from the airport I was thankful that my mom accompanied us at the hotel and airport. I have two luggage and 3 hand-carry and I can’t rely on my son.

Trondheim Airport

My husband did the online check-in so we have the middle seat, as per my request. Ayaw ko kasi mag-excuse or may mag-excuse pa if we need to go to the lavatory. Check-in was easy and wala din pila sa security check. Thank God! This is one thing that I dislike in traveling, ang dami security check. Nakakapagod maglabas at magbalik ng gamit. I already instructed my son kung paano kami sa security check and make sure na mauna siya para abangan gamit namin sa dulo.

We were two hours early for our flight and I could not connect to the free wifi. I’m not sure kung dahil nagamit ko na ba siya kahapon and wala pa 24hrs. We rode SAS airplane, with no complimentary food and drinks.

Oslo Airport

My husband went home first so he was able to take photos of the landmarks that I needed to remember so going to the next boarding gate was not a problem. The Immigration Officer advised us not to enter yet and to be back 2 hours before our flight because there was nothing to see inside.

Read: Glimpse of Oslo Airport

We had 5 hours layover in Oslo, so we bought pasalubong and ate lunch at Fiskeriet Seafood. I just ordered Fish and Chips NOK169 and NOK35 for bottled Coke.

We rode Thai Airways from Oslo to Bangkok, I was happy because our flight was only 10 hours compared to our Bangkok to Oslo which is 11 hours and 30 minutes. My dilemma is I could not sleep again, waah! I really appreciate the flight entertainment and they have a list of new movies.

Bangkok Airport

Upon arrival to Bangkok Airport, ramdam ko na ang init. I was happy that we arrived early because I had enough time to transfer to our next boarding gate. But when I checked the information, “delayed” agad ang nabasa ko. So from 1 hour and 25 minutes layover to 3 hours. Security check was smooth, with no long lines.

We rode Thai Airways again.

When I heard the announcement “I do apologize, we could not land yet because of air traffic and we’re at number 11…” ramdam ko na nasa Pinas na ko. Nasa ere pa lang, traffic na. Hehehe!

Finally, we were home and I was so thankful for the smooth flight. Achievement unlock, yehey! Nakabiyahe na kami ng malayo.

Learning Filipino with Buribox

When I had my son, I have no idea that I will be having a hard time teaching him the Filipino language. My husband and I speak Filipino in our home while my son is learning The English language because he always watches educational videos so even we talk to him in Tagalog he will not understand so we ended up speaking in English too. #nosebleed

When he started going to school, that is the only time that his Filipino vocabulary increases because of his classmates. We have no problem with school until he reached Kinder Level.

It is really a challenge for us to get good grades in Filipino and Araling Panlipunan subjects. Whenever we study or review these subjects, the calm mom became a monster mom in the end. hehehe! #stressdrilon He dislikes those subjects because he can’t understand all the words and sentences. He is having a hard time composing a sentence in Filipino.

There are limited resources that you can find in the bookstore and even online so I was really happy when I learned about Buribox last year. I was planning to subscribe this summer but thanks to May of fullyhousewifed.com for the invite to try Buribox.

What is Buribox?

Buribox is a monthly subscription box that will help you in developing kids literacy, critical thinking and gross and fine motor skills. It is designed for Filipino child so expect that the materials are bilingual and refer to Filipino culture.

There are 2 subscriptions that you can choose from.

Toddler Buribox P799

Recommended age: 3-5 years old

4-5 New preschool books every month
Multiple activities/worksheets and art materials every month

Young Reader Buribox P799

Recommended age: 6-8 years old

5 New storybooks each month
Multiple activities/worksheets and Art Materials every month

Young Reader Buribox

My son is 7 years old so I subscribed to Young Reader Buribox, I lived outside Metro Manila so I paid P150 for shipping fee via Paypal.

We received our first Buribox last month and my son was really happy with his new stuff. The box includes 5 books, worksheets/activities, and art materials. There is a Parent guide to guide you in the different activities. We started our activity after his periodical test but until now we haven’t finished all the activities because we are so busy with homework and quizzes.

I’m planning to continue my subscription after school year so at least we have something to do this summer. I wish this subscription box is available when my son was still in Preschool years because we have more time. Anyway, if you are homeschooling, if you are looking for additional activities or if you are having a hard time to teach Filipino, try Buribox.

Likes

1. We like Buribox because it is a nice way of teaching Filipino. I like the bilingual books because it makes my life easier in translating the story. The box includes worksheets and activities that will help kids in understanding the story. The art materials are already included in the box.

2. If you want to cancel the subscription, all you need to do is log in and unsubscribe.

Things to Improve

1. The only payment option is Paypal.

2. I hope there is an option for me to put comments regarding my delivery. In other online shopping sites, I can put weekday delivery only. So when they shipped the package last January 15, hindi ako makaalis ng bahay ng weekend waiting for the package. I can’t even track the package because there is no tracking number. Lol I received the package January 19. There is a note of 2 -3 days delivery but I want to make sure that I'm home.

3. Make sure that the activities or worksheets are correct. We’re supposed to receive carabao but we received cat.

DIY Tooth Pocket

Last month my son visited the pedia-dentist, she advised my son to wiggle the milk teeth in front of his permanent teeth. Unlike other kids, my son’s teeth were so intact na parang ayaw ng umalis. The two permanent teeth were out already but the baby teeth are still there so we have no choice but to remove it to give way to the permanent one.

A few weeks ago, my son told me that his tooth is already moving so I kept on reminding him to wiggle the tooth so we don’t need to go to the dentist anymore. But of course, he’s so scared of the pain. Though he doesn’t believe in Tooth Fairy, I told him I will be his tooth fairy so I sew Tooth Pockets where he will put his tooth and I printed Tooth Record and Tooth Fairy Receipt. Check my Pinterest to know the source of free printables.

Sewing this tooth pocket is so easy if you don’t want to sew you can use glue. My son was so happy when he saw these tooth pockets.

January 16, 2016

Finally, after several days, he agreed to remove his tooth. My husband showed him a video where the tooth was tied in Nerf Dart. We tried it but the tooth was still there so my husband just pulled the tooth using the thread.

The first tooth was out so I was able to save P1,800 for this. I was praying that the other tooth will fall out soon so no more trip to the dentist. But unfortunately, ayaw niya umalis. It was moving pero matigas pa siya para bunutin.

Simple Tooth Extraction by Pediatric Dentist

Last Saturday, we went to the dentist. We’re running late already because my husband informed me that our schedule is 1PM. Waah! According to my calendar, our schedule is still 4PM, binago pala nila and my husband did not inform me.

The staff informed him the day before but he forgot to inform me because he was in Brunei working and went straight to the airport to go back to the Philippines. Anyway, we’re 10 minutes late and waited for another 5 minutes so they can prepare the room.

The pedia-dentist asked me kung bubunutin pa ba, mga two weeks matatanggal na daw yung tooth. I asked my son kung masakit na ba yung tooth and he said yes so the doctor said, we need to remove it na.

So she explained to my son step by step, the doctor applied anesthesia then after two minutes, injection naman ng anesthesia. I was holding my son’s hand to let him know that I’m just there.

He cried during the process, sino ba naman ang di masasaktan di ba. Pulling the tooth was easy as 1, 2, 3, matagal pa yung sa anesthesia. The staff gave him yoyo and a tooth holder where they placed his tooth.

I was already paying the bill when his dad came, ganun kadali lang and mas matagal pa naghanap ng parking ang daddy niya. My son experienced two ways of removing tooth, so I asked him kung sino mas type niya, si Daddy ba o si dentist. Si Daddy na lang daw, hehehe! Sana nga, so I can save P1,800.

I know that I can still save money if I will visit other dental clinics but I don’t want to risk the experience at baka matrauma sa dentist.

My Son’s Check-up at Pediatric Ophthalmologist

I received my son’s Annual Physical Examination (School) last November and there was a note that we need to see an ophthalmologist. I immediately asked my friend for the contact number of their pedia-ophtha because I knew that it was not easy to get a schedule. There is only a limited number of pedia-ophtha here in the Philippines.

My husband called and the earliest we got is December 22, 2015. So aside from preparing for the holiday last year, we’re so busy going to the hospital, I mentioned before that we went to pedia-dentist last December 18.

When I saw the result of my son’s APE, I felt sad because I knew that he needed to wear eyeglasses and he was only 7 years old. Wearing eyeglasses is not easy because you have to take care of them and it might limit you to do some activities.

Fast forward to our check-up, the first step was this. You have to look at the picture inside the machine.

Next, the doctor called us, I gave the result of APE and he checked my son. He let my son read the letters. There was a time when we were repeating the instruction of the doctor because my son was not reading the letters. We thought that he was not listening to the doctor so we had to repeat it but the sad truth is, he can’t see the letters, that is why he’s not saying anything.

My husband was so silent at that time because he couldn’t accept the fact that there is something wrong with my son. At his age, my husband has 20/20 vision while my son needs to wear eyeglasses.

Then we went out for some tests, the assistant dropped liquid in my son’s eyes to relax the eyes, one drop in each eye. Three times yun, I’m not sure kung every 15 minutes. Then check up again in this machine.

After that, the doctor called us again to measure the correct grade for my son. She said that my son has astigmatism and farsightedness. She explained the terminology. She also said na buti may check-up sa school kasi mas naagapan daw yung mata. If we notice daw na lagi nababangga or natatapilok anak namin, dahil yun sa mata. Imagine, there are times that I think na clumsy anak ko kasi pag nasa mall kami, natatapilok or nababangga siya kaya lagi ko talaga siya hawak. Yun pala, there is something wrong with my son’s eyes.

We will go back after two months to see if there is an improvement after wearing eyeglasses. I was also thankful because the school has an annual check-up. After all, we don’t have that on our health card so at least we were able to go to the doctor immediately.

After the check-up, eyeglasses hunting na kami. Nakakalula pala ang price ng salamin sa mall and wala rin naman gaanu difference sa clinic so we went back to our pedia-ophtha’s clinic and dun na rin kami nagpagawa ng eyeglasses, P1500 frame + P4000 lens.

And because of the holiday, January 5, 2016 na narelease yung eyeglasses. Super remind ko sa anak ko na alagaan ang salamin at ang mahal.
