Why Women Wear Modest Swimsuits

Are you familiar with the word “burkini"? If not, you are not alone because all along, I thought it is just called a wetsuit. According to Wikipedia, Burkini or Burqini is a style of swimsuit for women that covers the whole body except the face, hands, and feet. It was designed by Aheda Zanetti, a Lebanese-Australian who saw the needs of Muslim girls and women. She designed this sportswear so girls and women in the Muslim community will be comfortable on their pool or beach trip.

Twelve years ago, my family went to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia and one of our itineraries is to visit Manukan Island. It was our first beach trip outside the Philippines. And during our trip, one thing I immediately noticed is the swimwear of the girls and women, they are all covered from head to toe. I was not really surprised because I know that Islam is the official religion of Malaysia so I already expected that they are conservative when it comes to clothes.

But when I saw their swimsuit, how I wish, I can also find the best modest swimsuit in the Philippines so I can also enjoy the pool or beach. If you are a regular reader of this blog, you know that I have psoriasis, it is not contagious but I don’t want strangers to look at my skin whenever we swim so I prefer a swimsuit that can hide my flare-ups.

So I am glad that nowadays, the burkini is no longer for religious purposes because there are women like me who prefer modest swimsuits. Few reasons why women prefer modest swimwear.

1. Religion Purposes
2. Protection from harmful UV rays
3. Not all women are comfortable displaying their bodies.
4. Some women want to hide their skin conditions or stretchmarks.
5. Survivors of skin cancer

Shopping for School Bag

Whether I like it or not, two weeks from now I have to kiss goodbye to summer vacation. I’ve been busy preparing all my son’s needs this coming school year and my back to school checklist is almost done.

Aside from books, one of the major expense in school is a bag. I just bought a trolley bag last year and it is still working fine but the problem is, we need a bigger bag because my son will be in grade school.

I told my husband last year to buy box type bag so we can reuse it the following year but he doesn’t like the idea because it is too big for my son. Ok fine, siya naman magbayad.

Two weeks ago, when my friend told me that she will go to SM, I asked her to check the price and design of the Hawk Bag box type bag. She sent me the pictures of the bag.

I was shocked when she told me that the price is P4,299.75. Waah! Mahal pa sa bag ko and almost double the price of our school bag last year. Click here to see our old bag. She informed me that there will be less 10% sa weekend sale.

After few days of waiting, we took advantage of the weekend sale and went to SM. The mall was really packed and box office hit ang pila sa cashier but of course tiniis ko ito para sa discount. Lol. I got the bag at P3,869.77 from P4,299.75. The salesman said, “kung nandito kayo before 12 noon may additional 10% discount. Sayang, 20% discount sana.

Hawk bag has been the leading manufacturer of high-quality bags and accessories since 1978. That is why,, I like Hawk bag because tried and tested na namin. I also like the features of the bag.

Ergonomic Design - I like the simple design and color. This box type has six wheels so my son can push or pull the bag in any directions.
Lock Stitch Technology
Heavy Duty Zipper
Multiple Organizer - it has a lot of pockets so you can easily organize the school stuff.

Pocket for the water bottle.
Pocket for snack/lunch.
Pocket in front where you can put the pencil case, scissors, crayons and many more.
Pocket at the back is where I put the extra clothes.
Pocket inside the bag where I put the whiteboard.

Weather Resistance - there’s available cover if it rains. Are you done with your back to school shopping?

Update 2017:

When my son was in Grade 3, his grandmother gifted him a new school bag for Christmas. The Blue Hawk Bag is still in good condition but we need a bigger bag for his Grade 4-6 school stuff. We gave the old bag to his cousin. The price is P4299.75 less 10% discount.

From Heels to Flats

I remember when I was young, I really want to be tall because I wanted to be a flight attendant and travel the world but I was not blessed with height.  And because of that, I always wear high heel shoes to increase my height.

We cannot deny that high heels shoes look stylish, elegant and sexy. It makes your outfit looks fabulous and it also adds confidence. But I have to say goodbye to high heels and say hello to flat shoes.

It all started when I was pregnant, of course, I can’t wear high heel shoes anymore for safety reasons. Then I had my son and I’m still not wearing high heel shoes. Maybe because I don’t care anymore about my height and I realized that there are advantages in wearing flats.

1. As a mom, it is very practical for me to wear flat shoes especially if I have to chase my very active son.

2. I feel comfortable in wearing flat shoes in doing my errands. I can do my grocery without feeling pain in my feet.

3. I can go to distance especially when I’m traveling so I make sure I wear flat shoes or sneakers.

4. For health and safety reasons, I know that wearing high heels can lead to chronic pain. You can check the list of “The Worst Shoes For Your Feet” article.

5. Since I’m a full-time mom, I prefer wearing flat shoes whenever I go out because it matches with my jeans and shirts outfit.

I’m not claiming that flat shoes are better than high heels shoes but I’m just saying that flat shoes work for me. It is best to search and invest in good quality flat shoes. ZALORA has a great selection of loafers for women. View their collection here".

Sanuk Summer Hangover

Yesterday, I was browsing my Facebook and I’ve learned that there was Sanuk Summer Hangover in Solenad so I immediately told my husband about it. Since last year I was convincing my husband to buy Sanuk Sandals but the price is not that cheap so of course the answer is always no.

Finally, I was able to convince him yesterday so off we went to Solenad even it was raining. I registered to join the raffle.

There were a lot of people so it was hot and it wasn’t easy to choose. My husband bought a pair for P1,200 only. So if you have time visit Solenad next weekend, May 25 and 26, 2013.

Shoe Room

I was not blessed with good height and my parents did not invest on Cherifer so I always wear high heels but when I got pregnant, I started wearing flat shoes and I enjoy wearing it so now my high heels shoes are only for special occasion and event.

I forgot to tell you that I bought a pair of shoes in the World Bazaar Festival, the only non-food item that I bought. I’ve been using these flat shoes during my busy days and I could attest that this shoe is really comfy and no foot aches at the end of the day. Another good thing about these shoes is, it is made of breathable materials, affordable and you can customize your own shoes. So if you are looking for comfortable shoes, try Shoe Room.
