4th World Travel Expo Experience

I’m itching to travel again so when I learned that we have two weeks semestral break, I immediately look for a place where we could spend our sembreak. Unfortunately, I was having a hard time kasi lagi na lang may problem, like hindi okay ang weather, mahal ang airfare or wala na ko makitang available resort or hotel na pasok sa budget. I don’t want to spend P10K/per night sa room because hindi naman kami magstaycation.

I want to travel but of course, I don’t want to hurt our savings so as much as possible I have to stick with our budget. Nainis din ko ng slight kasi sa school calendar namin, one-week lang semestral break so wala ko balak umalis. Then a week before sembreak, may nasagap ko na tsismis na two weeks daw ang sembreak namin dahil nasa South Korea mga school personnels. Pero last day of class na nag-inform si teacher and confirmed TWO WEEKS ANG SEMBREAK. Waah!

This is the reason, bakit Friday lang ang blog post ko last week because I was busy searching and planning for our trip. I stopped searching na lang kasi napagod na talaga ko kakahanap. I felt that I wasted my one week because wala din akong naplano and nastress lang ako. After few days, I checked kung may Travel Expo and voila, meron World Travel Expo at SMX Convention Center so napaluwas kami bigla. And the search is not yet over.

What: World Travel Expo 2019
Where: Function room 3, 4, and 5, SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City
When:  October 25, 26, 27, 2019, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Admission Fee: Php 80 - Adult and P50 for students, senior citizens, and PWD.

I checked the list of exhibitors and ang konti lang, wala nga ko nakita na airlines. Anyway, this is the 4th World Travel Expo so mag-improve din sila in the future.

Kahit konti lang ang nagjoin, hindi naman nasayang ang punta namin. We availed the PHP600 (from PHP1200) Japan Visa Processing, malay mo makabalik kami ng Japan. hehehe! I have 3 months to use the voucher and submit our requirements. I also bought 2 Stanley Food Jar at PHP1589 each less 25% off. Lastly, we booked 2 Palmera Suites at The Farm at San Benito (PHP8000 nett/per room). We checked other resorts and hotels pero dahil ang laki ng discount sa The Farm at San Benito kaya dito kami nagbooked. Matatanggal na rin siya sa bucket list ko. :)

My Philippines Travel Tour Expo Experience and Tips

We all know that traveling is costly but there are ways to save money for your next travel adventures. If you love to travel, I’m pretty sure that you always look forward to "travel expos" because it is the best time to score cheap plane tickets, discounted hotel and resort packages, affordable package tours, and even travel stuff are on sale like luggage, hand-carry bags, packing cubes and many more.

Since we live outside Metro Manila we don’t normally go to travel expos unless we have upcoming travel trips. So when I learned that there will be 26TH PTAA Travel Tour Expo 2019 from February 8-10, 2019, I immediately saved the date. It's been more than three years since our last visit to the travel expo.

26TH PTAA Travel Tour Expo 2019 Experience

Fast forward to our trip, my husband and I went to SMX Convention Center and we arrived before 8AM. On the way to the parking area, I already saw the crowd outside the SMX so totoo pala na ang dami ng tao. I was a little bit worried na baka matagalan kami bago makapasok kasi late na kami nakarating. But I was wrong because we did not have a hard time, thank God for Citibank credit card and Courtesy Seating.

After we parked the car, we asked the guard where is the line for the Citibank credit card holders and then we went straight to the other side of the building. Then I saw the Citicard Courtesy Seating so we did not go out of the building anymore. Yey! To register, the staff asked for our credit cards and we filled out a form and she gave us free tickets and flyers. Then we just waited for the opening time which is 8:30AM. Only those who have tickets can enter the travel expo.

Since we’re one of the early birds, we did not have a hard time falling in line. Unfortunately, some of the booths were still closed. Hindi yata sila aware sa early bird sale. Anyway, we immediately went to our target booth and reserved a plane ticket. Since we already have specific travel plans, we only visited 5 booths; 2 airlines, 1 luggage booth, 1 travel bags booth, and 1 travel stuff booth. So we were able to book a plane ticket, bought 1 checked-in bag and 1 hand-carry bag, luggage cover, and anti-theft bag. We started at 8:30AM and we finished everything after 4 hours, we left SMX at 12:38NN.

If you are planning to visit the travel tour expo, check my travel tour expo tips.

Philippine Travel Tour Expo Experience and Tips

1. Always be prepared

Cliche as it may sound but it is very important that you are always ready and prepared. This will help you to be organized and it will also help other people. Why? I noticed some people na dun pa lang mag-iisip kung saan pupunta, magcheck sa calendar ng travel dates, and they even don’t know their travel details.

A. Have a List

Some booths may ask for passport information, the birthday of the children, or any details that they need in order to book your ticket or package tour. So be prepared, list down your possible travel dates and travel details.

B. Research

Travel Expo always announced its event weeks before so you have enough time to save the date, plan your future trip, check the list of exhibitors, and research for rates or prices. I did this before going to the travel expo.

I checked the list of exhibitors, kung nandun ba yung airlines, hotels, resorts or stores na interested ako. Then I did a mock booking online to check the airfare if ever I will buy online so at least I have an idea if mura ba talaga sa travel expo or not.

C. Bring Eco Bag

Sa dami ng flyers and freebies, you need an extra bag para di ka na mahirapan maghawak.

2. Come early

As the quote says “The early bird catches the worm”, it is important to be early so you can get the first dibs and you can avoid long lines. And if you are lucky, you can also take advantage of courtesy seating for pregnant, senior citizens, or PWD or if there is a promo or Early Bird Sale from partner companies. I took advantage of this using the Citi Credit Card and Courtesy Seating so I have one hour to check the booths bago pa dumami tao.

3. Plan your route

At PTAA Travel Tour Expo 2019, there were 994 booths from over 400 travel tours, airline companies, government offices, embassies, and even travel related. You will feel overwhelmed sa dami ng pagpipilian. But everything will be easy if you know your travel plans so while waiting for the opening or before starting your booth hopping, check the map so you know where to go first. Take note two floors yan, so mark those booths na plan niyo puntahan.

4. Notebook and Pen

Don’t forget to bring a notebook and a pen. You will fill out a lot of forms or you will take down a lot of notes. Not all airlines will print out your reservation. Qatar Airways gave us a print-out booking reference but Emirates, just gave us a quotation and sinulat na lang namin. After visiting different booths, compare your notes and check who has a better deal, then go back to that booth and buy.

5. Don’t go alone

Since you will spend most of your time falling in line, it is better to have a buddy, a friend, or family so just in case you need to go to the restroom or you want to check other deals, may isa na nakapila at may isang naghahanap.

You can also go separate ways, your partner will visit these booths and you will visit these booths then you can compare notes after. You can save time by doing this. Other booths give out numbers so no need to stay in the booth for so long, just go back to the booth and check kung malapit na turn mo.

6. Check freebies

One thing I like about the travel expo is the freebies. Yes, aside from the sale, promo, or discounts, you can also get some stuff by simply visiting their booth, liking their social media page, sharing their booth on your social media, taking photos, or purchasing at their booth.

7. Look or ask for special deals

Be observant. Yes, make use of your time. Kaysa mainip ka sa kakahintay, observe other people. You will get some ideas sa kaka-observe mo lang. Lalo na yung mga freebies na bitbit nila or yung mga nabili nila. After buying our plane tickets, pauwi na sana kami kaso ang dami ko nakikita na may luggage na bitbit so hinanap namin and we were able to score affordable Samsonite Luggage and Pacsafe bags. There are more brands there na mas mura pa sa nabili namin like American Tourister, it just depends on your preferences.

Samsonite Handcarry Luggage
Original Price PHP15,550
Discounted Price PHP5970
Savings: PHP9870

Samsonite Luggage (Large/30kls)
Original Price P19250
Discounted Price P10,587.50
Savings: P8662.50

Pacsafe Crossbody Bag
Original Price: P4490
Discounted Price: P2000
+ 10% promo when I registered (less P200)
Savings: P2690

If you will ask me worth it ba pumila or pumunta sa travel expo?

My answer is yes, travel expo is like a one-stop shop so hindi ka na mahihirapan pa na maghanap ng mga package tours, discounted tickets and sale. You will feel safe din because you are dealing with authorized agents or staff so for sure hindi scam ang mabobook. Just bring a lot of patience and make sure you wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

But when it comes to airfare, I noticed konti lang naman difference nila if you will book online because the rate still depends on your travel dates. In our experience, konti lang difference nung sale nila dun sa nakita ko online before the travel expo but we still booked it because we can pay in Philippine Peso currency, big savings yun kasi ang laki ng foreign exchange currency fee sa credit card namin. If I book online, most of the time USD lagi pag international destination.

Easter in Norway

Time flies so fast and Holy week is near, this reminds me of our summer vacation in Norway last year. We left on Palm Sunday so we can celebrate the holidays there. Norway has a long celebration of Holy Week, they have no work from Holy Thursday up to Monday. How I wish, we have 5 days' holiday too so Monday will be our time for cleaning our home or returning home from vacation.

Norwegians are not very religious so the Holy Week is more on vacation and preparation for the Spring season. The majority of Norwegians travel overseas, go to their cabin or cottage house, visit mountains for skiing, or just spend quality with their family. It also marks that the winter season is about to end so most people change their curtains, displays or any other house decor. They put something yellow to celebrate Holy Week. They also start cleaning their garden because flowers and trees will start to bloom.

Since this is a long holiday, almost everything is closed. Yes, even malls, restaurants, and supermarkets so make sure that you already finish buying food, drinks or anything that you need by Holy Wednesday. Even Ferry boats stop sailing. That is the reason why we only stayed one night in Røros because there is no ferry trip every Good Friday.

As I mentioned, we celebrated Easter Eve and Easter Sunday in Røros, Norway. It is a very popular destination for Holy Week. It is situated on a plateau so they have a subarctic climate. And because of that, we were able to have fun in the snow and build a snowman.  You can check our Weekend in Røros, Norway Experience here and watch the video here.

Chicken and eggs are the famous symbols of Easter in Norway so most of the displays are chicken and eggs. Even their mascot is a chicken but recently, they also embrace Easter Bunny. We even saw these two mascots in Røros and they are giving away candies.

One thing I like in Norway is their Easter Eggs, they don’t have Easter Baskets because they are using pretty eggshells that are made of cardboard. You can buy this in the supermarket and fill it with candies, chocolates, and even small toys. The popular chocolate is Kvikk Lunsj chocolate which is similar to KitKat but we prefer the Freia brand, yun nga lang sa Scandinavia countries ko lang siya nakikita.

My son was very happy because he got a lot of eggs from his aunt so I prepare a DIY Easter Egg Hunt for him, you can check the video here. My mom gave him egg-stuffed toys with chocolates inside the backpack, it is a cute pasalubong from Amsterdam. My aunt gave him a Lego toy and my mom’s mother-in-law gave him an Easter egg too. So this is the major reason why I gained pounds in Norway, we have so much sweets intake.

My son also likes Kinder Egg Surprise and my mom and aunt always give him a box of it kahit hindi na Easter. Oh, how I wish we can go back to Norway again. Anyway, if you are planning for an Easter staycation or looking for an Easter Egg Hunt event, you can check my list here

9th Philippine International Pyromusical Competition

This year 2018 is already the 9th edition of the Philippine International Pyromusical Competition but it was only last weekend, we were able to witness the fireworks competition. Honestly, we have no idea that last February 17 was the first day of the competition. I just learned about it when we’re looking for a restaurant near Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila

February 17, 2018 - Philippines and Switzerland

When we went to our room, I was sad at first because we don’t have the pool and bay view, gusto ko sana dun ang view namin. But I appreciated our room na because we can see the fireworks ng mas malapit. I took a video from the balcony of our room while my husband took a video from Sunset Bar. Watch the video here

I was happy that we were able to watch the Pyromusical Competition during our staycation. If you want to watch the fireworks show, you can buy tickets or you can also look for hotels within the area like Sofitel Philippine Plaza. You can have staycation or just avail the buffet BBQ meal at Sunset Bar.

Tienda Sa Ayala Malls at Solenad

Last year, I’ve been seeing a lot of posts about TienDA sa Ayala Malls but it is too far from where I live. When I saw the Alabang Town Center event, I have a get-together on that date naman so hindi rin ko nakapunta. So when I saw a new post that there will be TienDA in Solenad, I immediately marked the date on my calendar. This will be the last leg of the weekend traveling market.

Nov 18-19, 2017 Abreeza Mall
Nov. 25-26 Ayala Center Cebu
Dec. 2-3 at UP Town Center
Dec. 9-10 Alabang Town Center
Dec 16-17 at Ayala Malls The 30th
Jan 20-21 Ayala Malls Solenad

TienDA sa Ayala Malls is a partnership between the Ayala Malls and Department Agriculture where you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and other local products from farmers and fishermen across the Philippines.

I was really curious if they are selling goods at farmgate prices, meaning mura di ba because there are no middlemen involved. So last Saturday, we were there as early as 10:30AM, according to the flyers, the event will start at 11AM but we’re glad that they are already selling their products.

So we checked the different booths, and I asked my husband if mura ba? To be honest, I don’t go to the wet market so I’m not really aware of the SRP.

Konti lang nabili namin, we bought pomelo from Davao, salted egg, corn, longganisang Lucban, and of course, we ate binatog and corn with butter and cheese. I was looking for the suman, pero wala ko nakita. Maybe, iba-iba yung seller per event.

We cooked the longganisang Lucban and surprisingly, we liked it. I knew that we tried longganisang Lucban (pasalubong) before and okay lang lasa pero yung nabili namin sa TienDA masarap so my two boys went back to TienDA just to buy the longa para makapaghoard kami at malayo ang Lucban, Quezon but unfortunately, ubos na daw. Marami din naghoard. lol

Before they left, my son ate corn with butter and cheese (new favorite niya) and they tried the Tubo (sugar cane) juice. He even told me “Mommy, sayang, you should come with us so you can taste the Tubo juice, it is good for the teeth, body and anti-aging pa”.

Me: Paano mo naman nalaman na anti-aging yun.
Ethan: I read it, it is in the cup of the juice.

We tried the pomelo and it is really good. I just bought few pieces because my husband told me, he might go to Davao so dun na lang daw siya bibili ng marami.

Manila Mini Maker Faire

Two weeks ago, my husband told me that he has an event on June 10 and he was inviting us to come with him, okay daw yung event na yun. Day before the event, I told him that we will not go with him, ang dami ko pa gagawin na chores sa bahay. I need to finish it before going to Pangasinan. Maulan pa, so siya na lang.

But he insisted that we should come, i-Google ko daw ang “Manila Mini Maker Faire” so I searched for it and according to their website, “Maker Faire is a gathering of fascinating, curious people who enjoy learning and who love sharing what they can do. From engineers to artists to scientists to crafters, Maker Faire is a venue for these “makers” to show hobbies, experiments, projects. We call it the Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth — a family-friendly showcase of invention, creativity, and resourcefulness.”

I also watched the video in Mind Museum page and when I saw that there are inventions, I let my son go with him because next year, they will have Robotics subject na. At least now, he will get an idea. So last Saturday, they went to Mind Museum to attend the Manila Mini Maker Faire.

There is no entrance fee so according to my husband, ang haba daw ng pila sa registration. My husband and son stayed there for almost 5 hours and I was glad that my son enjoyed the event. Let me share the photos of the activities that he tried.

Airplane from tissue roll

And because of that event, my husband took home 2 Free Mind Museum tickets. Yey!

Yummy and Healthy Vita Cubes 2 Good Fun Day

Thanks to Mommy Bloggers Philippines and Vita Cubes for inviting us to attend Vita Cubes 2 Good Fun Day at Active Fun BGC

We were one of the early birds in the event so we immediately fell in line at Flip Book booth. This is a nice souvenir for parties, weddings and events because it is not just an ordinary photo but a book with series of pictures. 30 pictures in one book.

A video posted by michisolee (@michisolee) on

Since this is a fun day event, the program started with games and I was glad because my son won the “Battle of the Brains” game.

Next is one on one talk with Frances Sales, one of the mommy bloggers that I follow ever since I started blogging so it is nice to see her in person. Her family is a fan of Vita Cubes and they like it chilled.

There are more games for kids and mommies, decorate your own cake activity and magic show. Click here for video

Of course, the much-awaited part of the event is one hour play at Active Fun Play Area. I have no picture of my son at bigla siyang naglaho sa paningin ko pagpasok niya ng play area. lol

After an hour, the staff already called his name to go down but after few minutes, wala pa rin. Sumakit na leeg ko kakatingala at kakahanap so when I finally saw him, I called him na. Mas narinig pa niya boses ko kaysa sa microphone ng staff. Hehehe! He doesn’t want to go home pa but we need to, malayo pa ang uuwian namin

It was really a fun event and I’m glad that I met few fellow mommy bloggers.

What is Vita Cubes?

Vita Cubes are cube-shaped jelly candies that are fortified with essential vitamins and minerals. It comes in five different fruit flavors, strawberry, apple, grape, orange and mango.

As I mentioned, this jelly fruit flavored candy is high in vitamins and minerals that are essential for growing children. It contains Vitamin A, B, C, E, Lysine and Zinc. So you can eat candies without guilt. If you like gummy bears, you will definitely love this, though this is a little bit sweet because of the sugar coating. One 50g-pack has 190 calories.

Imagine, jelly candies with vitamins and minerals. Indeed, it is a yummy and healthy candy. Unfortunately, my son is not fond of candies. He sometimes eats it but most of the time candies have no appeal to him, whether it is hard or soft candy. So every year, we give away some of the candies that we got from Trick or Treat parties to his cousins. But give him a pack of chocolates, he can finish it in one sitting. :)

Well, he may not a fan of candies but I eat candies. I also have nephews and nieces who love gummy bears so I’m pretty sure that Vita Cubes will be an instant hit. #vitacubes2good

I learned about Vita Cubes last year, it is one of the sponsors of the Trick or Treat at Taal Vista Hotel. We already tried it because it was included in the loot bag. Among the flavors, my son prefers mango so I eat the rest of the flavors. Hehehe!

Where to Buy Vita Cubes?

You can buy this at Mercury Drug Outlets, SM Supermarkets, Waltermart, Landmark, Puregold and Mini Stop Outlets.

How Much is the Vita Cubes?

It is available in 50g-pack at P12 (10pcs) or Vita Cube singles at P1.

This is not expensive so you can put this in birthday loot bag, trick or treat giveaways or even gifts to your kid’s classmates this holiday. Have you tried Vita Cubes?
