12th Blogversary and Why Do I Still Blog?

I was busy celebrating our couple's anniversary and wedding anniversary and I forgot that last week was also my 12th blogversary. Time is ticking so fast and I did not imagine that I will be blogging this long. Nowadays, people prefer watching videos so the majority of the content creators are now on YouTube, Tiktok, and Instagram Reels so why do I still blog?

Well, we are all unique and we have our own talents, skills, gifts, and even personalities. I don’t see myself in front of the camera because I am an introvert. I prefer reading to watching. I prefer writing or blogging so I have something to look back on when I want to reminisce or I need some details and information. From time to time, I post videos too as an extension of my blog posts.

Looking back, I started this blog just to keep myself sane and I wanted to document my son’s milestones. Now, this blog still keeps me sane but it evolves because I change. As time flies my likes, preferences, and interests change too. But one thing that never changes is, this blog still sparks joy and fits the life that I want to live in.

The online world is overwhelming but I can step away from it so there are months that I have few blog posts or social media posts because I am busy with my offline life. And my offline life is my real world/real life and I am happy to spend more time with my family, friends, and hobbies.

“Do more of what makes you happy”

Blogging success is not only determined by how many followers and views you have because you can define your own success or achievement. For me, it is already an achievement to reach 12 years and counting… I feel blessed to do the things that I love with my own time and the most important thing is no pressure.

Michi Photostory is Back

Several days ago, my website views were decreasing which is odd because even I am not blogging, I still have blog traffic. But I did not mind it because I am not really after the page views because I just want to blog. And I am in the mood of finishing my backlogs and all of a sudden, I can no longer view my website.

In year “2013” I experienced the “I Was Blocked” error and I cannot access my blog. This time I’m getting an error of “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN”. I can still access my blog but I cannot view my website or blog posts. I am not a techy person so I really don’t know what to do. It was Sunday so I don’t want to stress myself so I just closed my desktop and hoped that everything will be back to normal the following day.

The following morning, I am still getting an error so I searched the internet and I did some troubleshooting, there are 8 options and I did some of the steps. Yung kaya lang ng powers ko then lastly I checked my own DNS Console and I was shocked when I saw the Server Error in the Application. “An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host”.

I renewed my domain last month so I don’t know why I can’t view my blog. I checked my stats and I have ZERO views so it means something is really wrong so I emailed the contact support and hopefully everything will be fixed soon. I did not receive any reply but thank God, today my blog is back. I was feeling down for the last few days because I have had this blog for almost 11 years and I don’t want to lose this.

"I'm back doing everything I used to do, loving life as ever." Donna Mills

Update:

I got a reply after two days and this is the answer to my email "We’ve implemented a system-wide solution for customers’ domains (such as your domain) that have been affected by our DNS resolution issues. Existing domains should be resolving normally, and your website should be live."

How Blogging Changed my Life?

Tom Stoppard said, “Every exit is an entry somewhere else”. I can clearly remember that this was the month when I handed my resignation and it’s been thirteen years already since I quit my corporate job. Looking back, I did not even dream to become a full-time mom and it is completely out of the picture. In my mind, I just wanted to have a baby and I can go back to work after my maternity leave.

But life happened and there are unexpected twists and turns. I bid goodbye to my career without knowing what my future would be. I accepted that my plans in life will not always work out and maybe God has a better plan for me. Like they always say, “Every cloud has a silver lining”

And because I’m not used to be stuck at home, I find ways to earn money so I was juggling between my family and part-time work for the next three years. Then I felt guilty because I forgot the first reason why I resigned which is “I want to be present to my son”. I stopped my part-time work as a content writer and I started blogging.

“Your greatest contribution to the Kingdom of God may not be something you do, but someone you raise” - Andy Stanley

How Blogging Changed my Life?

Blogging Keeps me Busy

I let go of my future incomes and focus on my son, but of course, I wanted to have my own “Me-time” too so I created this blog. I was not born a writer so I’m thankful for the opportunity to write articles for other websites and this part-time job became a bridge to my blogging journey. I may not be a writer but I can be a storyteller on my own blog.

Ten years had passed and blogging still keeps me busy, especially now that we are still under community quarantine, this blog is one of the reasons why my sanity is not slipping away. Blogging makes me happy knowing that I have the freedom and flexibility to write and share whatever I want in my own free time.

Blogging Allows Me to Discover my Hobbies and Interest

This blog is a living testament to how my hobbies and interests changed. I love learning, trying and challenging myself in order to grow. So far, I have learned to cook, bake, sew, crochet, design graphics and printables, and more. Learning new things breaks my everyday routine because I can do different things depending on my mood.

“Develop a passion for learning, if you do, you will never cease to grow” - Anthony D’ Angelo

Blogging Enhances my Skills

God did not shower me with talents; I can’t sing, I can’t dance, I can’t act, and I can’t draw but it is not a big obstacle because I know I can learn a skill. Blogging is no longer just a hobby, I want to improve my writing and photography. This blog helps me to develop my skills and I can no longer count how many webinars and courses that I have attended whether free or paid just to enhance my skills.

I consider myself as a lifelong learner and I don’t want to settle, our world is constantly changing so I have to change, adjust and grow too by discovering my own skills and exploring new opportunities.

Blogging Opens New Opportunities

There are millions of bloggers out there and competition is tough so I only have a slim chance that someone will stumble my blog. But I don’t consider it as a hindrance to stop blogging because I know that every people has their own story, every people has something to share and whatever content I am creating, it will matter to someone.

I’m very grateful to brands and companies that I have collaborated and worked with in the past ten years because even my blog has a small following, they gave me a chance to promote their products, services, and websites.

Blogging Allows Me to Earn

I know that you can earn from blogging but I did not imagine that it would happen to me. As I mentioned before, blogging is just my “Me-Time”. I did not foresee that two months after I started my blog I will receive my first paid blog opportunity. Of course, it is not an everyday scenario but I’m thankful for my blog earnings because I have the money to maintain my blog. Blogging is not cheap, there are a lot of expenses in order to keep it active.

Blogging Expands my Horizons

I have no clue that starting my blog will expand my horizons. I am an introvert and I enjoy staying at home and working behind the scene. I am a full-time mom and I rarely go out of the house unless there are errands and we are going to travel. But through blogging, I was able to meet some people and build some connections.

Blogging Gives me Work

It took me a while to realize that I am to focus on raising my only son and I tend to forget my own needs, wants, plans and dreams in life. I have to remind myself that it is not selfish to put myself first. I don't want my son to follow my footsteps and I don't want him to feel that because of him, I put away my dreams.

"Children have never been very good at listening to their elders, but they have never failed to imitate them." James Arthur Baldwin

For the past several years, I devoted my time as a stay-at-home-mom and blogging on the side. My son is no longer a baby and doesn’t need my full attention. And because of that, two years ago, I felt bored with my routine and I wanted to do more. I enrolled in Basic Photo and Video Editing Course and Social Media Management and Marketing Course. In my mind, I just wanted to improve my graphics and learn how to manage my own social media account.

Who would ever think that my passion will open new doors for me? My blog became my resume, business card, or portfolio to market myself, skills, and services as a Social Media Manager, Social Media Graphics Creator, and Business Owner. I’m still not really back in the corporate world but I am happy that I can work part-time again.

"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." C.S. Lewis

My blog may not be successful compared to other blogs but I am still proud of my own website because this blog still exists after one decade. It is not easy to maintain a blog and it takes a lot of work to keep it active.

I feel blessed to be able to do what I love to do. I like the freedom that I can do the things that makes me happy. And finally, I’m grateful for this blog because it changed my life in so many ways.

I’m not where I’m supposed to be, I’m not what I want to be, But I’m not what I used to be. I haven’t learned how to arrive; I’ve just learned how to keep going. John C. Maxwell

10 Years and Counting

Exactly 10 years ago, I started my blogging journey and I never imagine that I will hit my tenth blogging anniversary. Blogging is my “me-time and until now even I’m busy with other things, I still try to find time to update my blog”. Last year, I got derailed but this year, I miss blogging so I unplugged myself with client work to give time to my first love which is blogging and crafting.

Even though my blog and social media accounts have few followers, I continue blogging because I didn’t start my blog for fame but for myself. Even I have an audience of ONE which is myself, I still go on. Blogging is my creative outlet to keep my mind and life productive.

I love seeing and reading my old blog posts because it is a testament to my improvement as a wife, mother, and person. I discovered how my hobby changed from cooking to baking, sewing, crocheting, designing, and now crafting with my Cricut Maker. I witnessed how my body size keeps on growing as the years go by because of food trips. Slowly, I'm crossing out my bucket list and the list goes on.

Today, I’m celebrating my ten years milestone and as of this writing, I have 1,640 blog posts and 8,167,086 pageviews. If you have stumbled on my blog, thank you for being part of my 8 million views. Sharing some of my favorites quotes that keep me going and doing what I do.

“Do whatever it takes to make your soul happy”

“Do it for you, so that you can look back and feel proud of yourself for everything you’ve done”

“Allow yourself to be proud of yourself and all the progress you’ve made. Especially the progress that no one else has seen”

“You belong in the world - there is space that you can fill. This life would not be the same without you because there are beauty and magic that no one else but you can create” p.bodi

“My worth is not determined by how other people view me. My worth is determined by how I view myself” - April Green

“I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it, and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. - Roald Dahl

“I’m not good at everything, I just do my best at everything”

“My goal is not to be better than anyone else but to be better than I used to be” Wayne Dyer

“I’m not where I want to be, but I’m proud that I’m not where I used to be - Lucia Litman

“Self-love, this is exactly where happiness starts” - Camille Benitah

The Journey of Being a Stay at Home Mom, Mom Blogger and Work from Home Mom

"No matter how clueless you may feel right now, pay attention to suggestions and opportunities that suddenly present themselves...Take the first step in the direction toward something that feels right and see where it leads you. And do it NOW" - Jen Sincero

Stay at Home Mom

Time flies so fast and I could not believe that it has been twelve years already since I became a stay-at-home mom or a full-time mom. If you think that being a full-time mom is effortless, then you are definitely wrong. It is not really easy; in fact, it is more stressful than working in the corporate world. When my baby came, my life gradually changed because this time, I had little time for myself. It is really hard to become a wife, a mother, and a maid rolled into one.

Choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is not an easy decision for me because I know that I have to give up my career and future income. But still, I am proud and happy because I am always with my son from the time he was born until now. I feel blessed because not all mothers have the chance to be with their children. I witnessed his first cry, first smile, first laugh, first tooth, first crawl, first step, first word, and other milestones. I am present on special occasions and school events.

The joy of being with my son doesn’t mean that I am always on cloud nine because there are challenges and struggles too. The journey is not simple especially if you are not used to it, there are also times that I cried because I miss working and I want to have my own “me time”. But still, I never regret that I chose this path because even I do not have a salary, I know deep in my heart that it is a rewarding career.

If you are a stay-at-home-mom like me and if there are times that you feel depressed or unfulfilled, don’t worry because it is just normal. You can read the “Professionalizing Motherhood” book by Jill Savage. This book really helps me a lot and makes me realize that being a full-time mom is a valuable career choice and there is nothing to be ashamed of.

Stay at home moms do not mean that we are lazy and uneducated because we are not, we just choose our kid/s over career because we feel that this is the best decision for our own family. Instead of focusing on the negative things, look for an opportunity to do the things that you cannot do if you are still working or take advantage of the time to learn new skills.

Work from Home Mom

When I decided to resign from work, I know that it would be difficult for me because I am not used to being at home. Two months after graduation I already started working so choosing to be a stay-at-home mom is really a challenge. I enjoy the first two months because I have time for myself, no work, no more graveyard shift, and no more deadlines. Aside from the usual household chores, most of the time I watch TV, surf the internet, bake cupcakes, and read magazines and pregnancy books.

But after two months I really feel bored because I cannot do anything and I am stuck at home. I have all the time in the world but I cannot go on vacation because I was on bed rest for few months, I do not want to spend money since I no longer have a salary and I have no companions since they are all working.

After three months of not working, I worked as a real estate agent but it is not easy so I stop before giving birth. After several months, I became a mompreneur, I opened my online store (www.mcsstore.multiply.com), it all started because I want to sell my son’s preloved baby stuff and then I decided to resell some products. I closed my online store because I don’t have time for shipping or meet-ups.

I tried my luck and applied to be a ghostwriter. Honestly, I don’t consider myself a writer, because I hate English subjects during my school days. I just took the risk and applied to be a content writer and fortunately I was hired. I have been writing for eight months and I decided to resign because it’s eating my time and I felt guilty because I have no time for my son. It reminded me of the reason why I resigned so I focus on being a stay-at-home mom.

Mom Blogger

Quitting my online job leads me to blogging. I started my own blog where I can freely write and share my story during my free time. This year 2020, Michi Photostory is already 9 years old, I never thought I would come this far. My blog may not be popular and it may not have a lot of followers but I am happy to help those people who stumbled on this blog.

This blog allows me to earn a little through ads, sponsored posts, paid insert links, and other blogging opportunities. The passive income helps me to support my hobbies, buy the things that I want, save, and invest.

7 Things I’ve Learned in 7 Years of Blogging

It is not just about the earnings but this blog is the reason why I learned and developed some skills like graphic design and social media management. These skills allow me to have a freelance career. Yes, I’m back to being a work-from-home mom but this time, I only accept short-term projects or part-time work. I’m still a work in progress because it’s been years since the last time I applied for work. I feel like a fresh college graduate student who has no idea how I'm going to sell myself in a job interview.

In a span of 12 years, I became a stay-at-home mom, mom blogger, and work-from-home mom. I know that my journey as a full-time mom will not end and it is still counting. But I’m thankful to God for opening doors so I can enjoy being a mother and at the same time, earn while I’m in the comfort of my home. I just hope and pray that as I walk this path, I will learn to enjoy and appreciate more my chosen career.

Why and How I Deleted my 20,500 Tweets

I love decluttering and it became part of my life, I used to hoard stuff before for sentimental value sake but as the years go by, I learned to let go most of my stuff. I don’t just declutter our home but I also declutter my laptop files, my emails, my blog, and social media. Yes, I delete emails, files, photos that I no longer need. I update my old posts, delete blog posts and social media posts that no longer serve any purpose. I believe that there is no good reason to keep them.

September 7,2018

Out of the blue, I checked my Twitter Profile last week and I was surprised because I have 20,500+ tweets. Woah! I’m not really active on twitter but I have 20,500 tweets. Anu-ano ang mga yun? Then I realized that everytime I declutter, I forgot to include my Twitter and I guess I have never deleted any tweets since I started last October 2009.

At first, I was curious what were my tweets look like when I started so I search “How I can Find my Old Tweets”. I used Advanced Search, write my twitter handle, choose the date and click search but for some reasons, this is not working. I can’t find my old tweets. I can’t view per year too. I also tried typing this “from:username since:yyyy-mm-dd until:yyyy-mm-dd” on the Twitter Search button but same fate. So I have no choice but to start deleting my recent tweets until I reach year 2009. I’m so crazy.

Twitter has no option of “Delete All Tweets” or “Delete Multiple Tweets”. I have 20,500 tweets and I was estimating that I can finish this before September ends if I will delete 1000 tweet per day. But I got carried away in deleting my tweets, I started September 2018 until I reached November 2017 tweets and then Twitter stopped displaying my tweets. My Profile shows that I still have 17,200 Tweets but I can’t view anything. And because of that, I learned that “Twitter only displays 3,200 most recent tweets and old tweets cannot always be displayed”. Boom! Two days pa lang ko nagdedelete, nasira na plan ko.

I don’t know how long will I wait for the Twitter to display my Tweets. I know that I can use some service Apps like TweeterDelete, TweeterEraser, and TwitWipe but at that time I don’t want to use any app because it means I have to enter my information pa. My husband even suggested to just delete my Twitter account and start again. Grabe, ang harsh naman ng suggestion. Yes, I can easily do that, I did that with my Facebook Page, Google +, YouTube and even my Email Subscription but one thing I knew, ang hirap magpaincrease ng followers noh. As if sikat ako, lol.

September 9, 2018

And because of the deletion limits, I can no longer delete any more tweets but I did not lose hope. I tried searching for my tweets using keywords. I’m pretty sure that I shared most of my blog posts, on the search button, I type my twitter handle and keywords like travel, trip, recipes, DIY, tips, giveaways, and more. Then I started deleting my tweets and I’ve been doing this for the past few days.

I’m just deleting my old tweets not because I want to hide something or because I posted something na nakakahiya. I am just doing a maintenance so I erased my tweets from my old blogs like My Other Nook, Mrs. Ugly Duckling and Michi Home Sweet Home. I deleted the giveaways, press release, discounts, sales, and promo posts that no longer matters. And because I want a fresh start, I want to delete all.

September 13, 2018

From 20,500 tweets, I was down to 1,600+ tweets but my dilemma is I can no longer think of any keywords, wala na ko maisip na pwede ko pa isearch. Then I checked my Twitter Profile and I was surprised that Twitter already updated my tweets (after 4 days). Yey, so I erased the remaining tweets and finally no more tweets.

September 14, 2018

I have zero tweets but as of this writing when I checked my Twitter Profile, bigla nagkaroon ng 9 Tweets pero wala na naman ko nakikita. But anyway, I’m happy that my Twitter Problem is now solved. Fresh start and I promised myself that I will include this in my blog and social media clean up every year. Since 3,200 tweets lang naman ang dinidisplay so yun na ang sign ko.
"Sometimes the best way to be happy is to learn to let go of things you tried hard to hold on to that are no longer good for you"
My only regret is, I did not download a backup copy of my tweets and I don’t even have a picture of my Twitter Profile when I reached 20,500+ Tweets for souvenir sake.

Are you keeping your tweets?

The Purpose of Hiding Your IP Address

Many internet users do not know the importance of hiding their IP addresses. Many do not know the purpose of an IP address. The IP address or the Internet Protocol address is a numerical label assigned to every computer or to mobile device. The IP address provides our location whenever we accessed any website online and it can track our activity while we visit the various sites. The Internet is not as simple as most of us think.

There are many reasons why it is important to hide our IP address. We can hide our IP address by using a VPN service, Tor, a Proxy server, or free/public Wi-Fi. Using the best VPN for torrenting, browsing, streaming, and others will keep the users anonymous and secure online.

The Purpose of Hiding Your IP Address

1. If I do not hide my IP address, I will be leaving behind a trace of my identity on every website I visited. I can remain anonymous when browsing online by hiding my real IP address via encryption.
2. When I am out of my own country, I can continue to enjoy streaming as an anonymous.
3. I can stay safe from snoopers looking to access my information because my real location is disguised.
4. I will be protecting myself from lurking hackers when using a Wi-Fi hotspot. Hotspots are open to everyone and are not secured, nor protected.
5. With my IP address hidden, I can access content not available in my location.
6. I can also bypass restrictions and hide my internet activity from surveillance and national internet censorship such as school, business, and organizations, and protects my online activities from being tracked.
7. By hiding my IP address, the internet service provider will not be able to track and hold on to the data generated by my online activities and my online searches will remain private.
8. My online activities will be hidden from search engines that track and store data on my browsing activities. Always remember to clear the cookies after every browsing session.
9. With my IP address hidden, I am guaranteed the privacy to enjoy internet freedom.

7 Things I’ve Learned in 7 Years of Blogging

February is my favorite month because there are so many special events in my life. One of those events is my Blog Anniversary. I don’t usually write blogversary post but this time I will because this year is my 7th year blogging anniversary. Yey! I can’t believe that I’m blogging for years because, to be honest, it is not easy to maintain a blog.

Looking back, I started this blog because I resigned from my online job. I stopped ghostwriting and started writing for my own website. Even though I know that I will not earn anything on this blog, I had fun posting. There are no deadlines to meet, no keywords to follow and I can freely write the things that really interest me.

Michi Photostory started last February 16, 2011, I remember those days when I only have three readers, ME, MYSELF, and I. But now, I am proud to say that I have more than 7,000,000 page views on this blog. To my silent readers, regular readers, or to those who just stumbled on my blog. Thank you for the visit and support. I'm happy to receive emails and comments that this simple blog helped you.

7 Things I’ve Learned in 7 Years of Blogging

1. It is easy to start a blog but it’s hard to maintain it.

There are tons of websites where you can start making your own blog for FREE. It is easy to create one but it is not easy to maintain a blog. It takes time and effort to create a post, edit pictures and share it. When I was starting, I’ve been following other mommy bloggers but after few years they just suddenly stopped blogging. I don’t know why. So it is really an achievement for me to reach my seven years and I have no plan of stopping yet because I still enjoy writing and sharing stories.

For me, Blogging is not yet Dead.

2. Start with the right goal and intention

If you are starting a blog just to earn money or just to get freebies, there is a possibility that you will lose interest in blogging. To be honest, it is not easy to earn money in blogging because there are millions of bloggers out there. Competition is high so you have to establish your blog first.

Though I’m blogging for seven years, I’m still not an established/celebrity blogger but I'm still blogging because like what I’ve said before, I started this blog to keep me sane. It is my creative outlet so bonus na lang if I have blog opportunities.

"Blogging is not all about earning but learning"

3. Blog can give headaches and heartaches

A blog can bring headaches and heartaches too because you cannot please all people. Yes, there are haters and bashers too. Some people won’t agree with you but you just keep going!

"There will be haters, there will be doubters, there will be non-believers, and then there will be you, proving them wrong"

There are some people who will not pay for the work you've done even after numerous follow-ups. Some won't give the tokens that they promised. Well, I just charged it to experience and pray that it won't happen again.

Read: The effect of Having a Blog

4. Don’t spend a lot

If you are just starting a blog, take advantage of the free platform like Blogger and Wordpress. Don’t spend a lot until you are starting to make money. Well, this is just my opinion, because there are some bloggers that I know, they spent money on blog makeover, domain, blog hosting then after few months, they became inactive. Sayang di ba but if you have the budget why not. It is really nice to have a good website.

But if you feel that you really want to get serious with blogging then learn to invest. Invest in time and invest in money. It took me 10 months before I decided to buy my own domain and until now I’m using a free platform because I don’t want to pay for hosting services yet. It took me 6 years before I spent money on my blogger themes and social media templatesBut slowly, I’m learning to invest in this blog for more improvement and it increases my blog opportunities.

5. Say NO to opportunities

When I started this blog, I have no idea that there are different blog opportunities. There are blog event invites, product reviews, service reviews, and even sponsored post opportunities. Yes, there are a lot of opportunities for you to grow and earn. It is up to you whether you accept it or not.

But for seven years, I have learned to say NO to opportunities because it doesn’t align with my blog goals and values. I don’t accept a sponsored post that is not related to my niche. Products that I’m not really using. And I rarely attend blogging events because I want more time with my family. I know that attending events will help me in gaining new friends, meeting new people, and establishing my network but I always remind myself “the reason why I started my blog”.

“There are seasons in our life that we need to say no to good things in order to say yes to great things”. As of now, family time is my priority than blogging events. Maybe when my son is already old, I will have time to attend blog events.

6. Know your worth

If you are blogging for some quite time now, you will receive a lot of emails, asking you to post their press release, giving you free content but there are advertisement links on that article or giving you cheap products in exchange for a blog post.

I’m not saying it is wrong to post a press release, to accept a guest post, and to do a product review. But KNOW YOUR WORTH and DO NOT WORK for FREE. Blogging is not free, it is an expensive hobby. You need a laptop, internet, camera, and electricity. You are spending money on your domain or hosting service. In addition, it takes time and effort to post something on your blog so hindi pwedeng laging LIBRE. No more people-pleasing.

"I gotta stop treating people like I owe them something" - Tupac

7. Have Fun

Don’t compare your blog to other blogs because you will be depressed. Don’t mind the blog statistics because you will be distressed. Forget about the numbers because it doesn’t define your blog. It is better to have few followers but loyal because these people really read and follow your posts. Just keep on writing and posting. Someday, readers will discover your blog and blog opportunities will come. For now, keep your passion alive and have fun.

"Comparison is a thief of joy" - Theodore Roosevelt

How to Turn Off YouTube Embed Code

I’ve been blogging since 2011 but most of my posts only include pictures because honestly, I don’t know how to put videos on my blog before. Hehehe! I tried uploading in YouTube but it takes time because I have very slow internet (up to 2MBPS only) so tinatamad ko.

My son is a fan of YouTube and he really likes watching videos. Ever since he was a kid, I always filmed his performance in school then I will upload on my Facebook (for family). He always asks me, “Did you video me, Mommy?” or “May I see my video?”. He will watch his videos for the nth time.

But I feel that my videos are low quality so I don’t share it in my social media but when my husband gifted me iPhone 6 last year (birthday gift), feeling ko, ok na videos ko, HD quality na. Lol. Who will watch blurred videos di ba? So that’s the time that I shared videos on my Instagram

Last February, my husband gifted me Fuji XA2. Yehey, I can now record 15 minutes video so that is the start of my Michi Photostory Channel. I started uploading videos last summer, so far I have 45 videos.

I’m not a pro so I’m still learning how to edit videos but my son is satisfied in watching his YouTube videos. There was one time, he went home and he said, his classmates said to him, “I saw you on YouTube”. So I was happy na may “reach” na videos ko even I have few subscribers.

But last month, out of the blue I searched for my website and then I discovered that there are two websites that uploaded my videos. I tried to report it na but when I visited the site again, nandun pa rin. As in, one page, nandun yung videos ko and take note ang title talaga “Michi Photostory Channel”.

I don’t know why there are people who will do this. I don’t know how he can earn from uploading all my videos on his site. The site is in different language pa so I don’t really understand why. This makes me sad, so I asked helped in “Ask Pinoy Bloggers” FB group and they are generous enough to give me tips.

One person advised me to turn off my embed code in my You Tube videos. I have 40+ videos at that time so it took me hours just to remove the embed code. In addition, I have to edit my blog posts too, because it will also affect my videos.

Nakakainis di ba, hindi ko na tuloy magamit yung own video ko sa blog ko because I will turn off the embed code. But this is the only way I know to prevent bad guys to use my videos in their website. So if you have YouTube, you might want to turn off the embed code.

How to Turn off Embed Code in YouTube Video

1. Sign-in to your YouTube Account
2. Go to Creator Studio, Video Manager and Videos
3. Choose the Video and click Edit Button
4. At Info & Setting Tab, click Advance settings
5. Look for Distribution Options and uncheck the “Allow Embedding
6. Save Changes.

If you have Playlist

1. Click on Edit Button
2. Click Playlist Settings
3. Uncheck the “Allow Embedding”
4. Click Save

Hope this helps.

Starting Over Again

I was so busy for the last few months and because of that, I was not able to renew my domain. Well, aside from this blog I have other blogs that I need to renew my domain and I can’t figure out how to renew it. I search and search but it is not working. I thought it would be easy because I have renewed Michi Photostory domain last December. Last year I did not have any problem because I just have to click the link on my email and pay the amount. But now, it is very different and I gave up.

Since I don’t have time because of our three consecutive weekend trips, my two domains expired. I accepted the fact that I will lose my two blogs because I don’t even know how to buy a new domain aside from Blogger. But thank God I was able to buy a domain in Go Daddy. I know I have to start all over again but I was still happy because I did not lose my two blogs.

Then few days after fixing my blog problems, I was having laptop problems, nagpaparamdam na talaga siya mapalitan. I was thankful that my husband bought me a new laptop na but the problem is, I don’t know how to use Windows 8, waah! It took me days to learn it.

But anyway, at least I can blog again and hopefully, I can finish my backlogs. I just realized that I haven’t started my Kuala Lumpur-Singapore series and malapit na matapos March. Lol.

Three Celebrations in One Month

February is my favorite month, it is really a love month because I always celebrate three events that is very special to me. February is our boyfriend/girlfriend anniversary. I said yes to my ex-boyfriend on Valentine’s Day and we’re in our 11 years and still counting. We had an early dinner in Bulgogi Brothers to celebrate Valentine’s Day and couple anniversary. Since we’re on a budget, I told my husband not to buy anything, no flowers and chocolates. I decided to bake to surprise him.

But I was also surprised when he came because he bought a cake. Waaah! I felt na nasayang effort ko and how can we finish these two cakes in less than 24 hours.

February is Michi Photostory anniversary, yay! my blog is already three years old. I was not able to blog on that day because we’re in Kuala Lumpur. But I would like to thank you for taking time out of your day in reading my blog.

Actually, maintaining a blog is not easy because it takes a lot of time in composing and editing pictures. It is quite an expensive hobby especially if you are paying for your domain and if you have crashed laptop. I’ll share that in my next post.

But I’m happy in sharing our travel, food trip and part of my life. Hoping to inspire others to travel more, to try a new restaurant and to enjoy being a domesticated diva or just live a happy life. I’m happy to say that the pageview of this blog is increasing but I just notice that few people are leaving a trace. I seldom see comments on my post. I don’t know if is because of the google reader or Facebook page issue that you can’t see my post. Anyway, if you’re interested to read my post, I suggest you subscribe to my mailing list.

Moving on, the last celebration that I celebrated last month is our 8th Wedding Anniversary. We’re in Universal Studio Singapore last February to celebrate. Yes, we’re back in Singapore after 7 years. FYI, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary in Singapore. Will share our experience soon.

Goodbye Google Reader

Last March 13, 2013 Google announce that they will have spring cleaning and starting July 1, 2013 no more Google Reader.

“We launched Google Reader in 2005 in an effort to make it easy for people to discover and keep tabs on their favorite websites. While the product has a loyal following, over the years usage has declined. So, on July 1, 2013, we will retire Google Reader. Users and developers interested in RSS alternatives can export their data, including their subscriptions, with Google Takeout over the course of the next four months.”

If you’ve been following this blog via RSS feed or GFC (Google Friend Connect), you will no longer receive any update starting July 1, 2013. So if you still want to be updated, you can follow me on my Facebook Page, Twitter Page or Bloglovin.

I had Bloglovin for two years already but I’m not really active in using it but now I’m starting to import my RSS subscriptions from Google Reader to Bloglovin so I can still read and follow other blogs.

How to Check Broken Links

I’ve been blogging for more than 2 years now and I started with zero knowledge because all I wanted is to create a post and publish so until now I’m still learning. Yesterday I’ve learned about broken links, actually I have no idea about broken links and how it will affect my blog so I search for more details and here’s what I found.

What is broken link?

A broken link is a link on a webpage that is no longer working. It is considered a dead link because it encounters errors, maybe because the link is no longer working or they attached an improper url.

As a website owner, we need to “Check for broken links and correct HTML”. That is one of the 35 things that Google wants us to do to avoid a bad reputation that could decrease your page ranking. I do understand that because I always use Google in searching for information and I felt so disappointed if I will be directed to a dead link. It is such a waste of time.

How to check your broken links?

There are free broken links checker and as of now I’m using this http://www.brokenlinkcheck.com/

It is so easy to use; just type your URL and click find broken links. After few minutes you will get the status. On my first check, I’ve found out that I have 70 broken links out of 3000 pages. You will see bad code, 404 error and bad host.

I spent hours in removing those broken links and until now I’m not yet finished because after I removed the links, I will type my URL again and there are still more broken links. I know that it is a tedious task but I have to do it.

Blogs that I Follow

I started blogging when I resigned from being a ghostwriter. I just feel that ghostwriting is not really helping me because I’ve been on the computer for hours and I have no time with my son. I’m not really a professional writer so it gives me stress and headaches just to write a good article so I’m always tired.

Then I felt bored without doing anything at home so I started this blog and the rest is history. I know that in blogging, I can easily write because I’m just sharing stories. I thought I will just create a post and hit publish button and that’s it. But I was wrong, I have no idea that there are so many bloggers in this world and then I began to blog hop and follow some blogs that I like.

I do believe that you only follow blogs if you’re interested, if you can relate to their stories, if you can get information and if you’re learning along the way. So, I don’t force anyone to follow my blog and even after my giveaway, I don’t mind if they unsubscribe or unfollow me. They are free to stay and leave.

I have a long list of blogs that I follow so I won’t go into detail but I will share the niche.

1. Motherhood

I’m a mother so I follow those blogs that I can relate especially to those full-time moms like me. I like reading their mommy adventures too because somehow I felt relieved that I’m not alone. I do follow working moms and work at home mom because I was amazed at their time management. Imagine, they still have time and energy to blog after work.

2. Travel

It is not a secret here that I love to travel so I’m really interested in travel blogs. I love reading their travel stories, DIY tips, itineraries, and reviews. I discovered new places and because of that I have a long list of “Must Visit Place”.

3. Food

We love food trip and I love trying new restaurant and recipe. I stalk food bloggers who are passionate about food and drinks and no doubt that I’m gaining weight.

4. Inspirational

I love reading inspirational blogs. Those blogs that inspire me to do DIY and Craft projects, to be closer to God and to be a good mom and wife.

5. Money

blog talking about financials, investment, and savings. I’m not getting any younger and I know I must save and invest for our future. So I follow those financial gurus for some savings and investment tips.

These are the niche that I follow and stalk.

Free Personalized Logo Development

Are you new to blogosphere or currently building a brand name online? One of the things you should do to make it successful is to create your site’s brand image or commonly known as “logo” especially when it comes to bloggers. In this way, if you are going to take part of some events for instance, people could easily identify your site through the logo you have.

A lot of people find it hard to create their own brand image, lucky to those who know how to use known software in making such thing and those who can afford to pay for it. But how about those new in the field and those can’t even afford to pay for any service yet?

Good thing that there are still websites which offer free logo maker! Yes, you read it right. These days, it’s quite difficult to search for free software that helps us to create and visualize the logo we desire. Despite of it, there are still good companies offer software tools for free to help us in building the brand image we wanted to have.

And for those who are still in the process of making their blog, there are plenty of logo development tools available online!

I Was Blocked

Two days ago my IP address has been blocked and I don’t know why. Every time I visit my blog I’m getting these errors and I can’t visit other blogs too.

Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. Please try your request again later. Why did this happen?

Honestly, I’m so pissed off because I can’t finish my backlogs and I can’t do my normal routine which is blog hopping when I’m just at home. I did my research and I did most of the suggestions like clearing my cookies, cache, and browsing history. I scanned my computer if there virus. I even tried lifting the block but I can’t do it because they don’t accept free emails. Then I wanted to use proxy servers but while I was reading the instructions, I don’t know how to do it, di kinaya ng powers ko. Lastly, I begged my husband to stop downloading movies on my laptop so he deleted those downloaded files.

I felt so helpless and I cried yesterday because I need to do something and I can’t access my own blog. The task was just easy and I can do it in less than 5 minutes but it took me forever because I need to use another internet provider which is Globe Tattoo. Super slow connection and it took me more than an hour just to open my blog, insert the keyword and update it.

Imagine I was so stressed because I can’t access my blog for two days. I’ve read other blogs that were affected too and I was reading their troubleshooting but I did not do it because I was tired already, I just uttered a simple prayer “na sana pagising ko ok na lahat” and God answered my prayer.

I can visit my blog today and I hope it won’t happen again.

2nd year Blogversary

Now, I’m celebrating my 2nd year blogversary. I can’t believe that I’m blogging for two years already and though I have very limited time now I’m still trying to update this blog. Thank you to all my readers who still read and comment on my blog post.

In the span of two years I’ve gained new ideas, met online friends and learned lessons through blogging. I’m sharing to you my experiences and lessons that I’ve learned so far.

1. If you still remember my very controversial Cebu’s Lechon post,  that was the first time that I received negative comments after six months of blogging. Somehow it affected me but thanks to all the comments that I’ve received because it enlightened me. I know that I’m just giving my honest review and I’ve realized that negative comments are inevitable and you just have to live with it as long as you are in blogosphere. Click here to read more.

2. Last year, I attended “Healthier Moms, Happier Kids” event . It was the first blogging event that I’ve attended because it fell on weekend schedule. During the said event, I feel so out of place because I don’t know any blogger there and most of them are talking about events that they have attended and events that they are going to attend. I can’t relate and it seems that they have known each other for so long.

I seldom receive invites but most of the invitation I received I declined. I’m not fond of attending event because the location is always NCR, schedule is always weekday and I feel that it is not my thing. There are bloggers who enjoy attending event and I’m not one of them. I realized that attending blogging event is not my priority because I started this blog to share our family story not events. Don’t get me wrong, if there’s one good event and if I have spare time I will attend again. I’m a full time mom without yaya so it is nearly impossible for me to enjoy attending events.

3. Last August, I had Favordeal Giveaway. I received an offer to host jewelry giveaway. I google the site and I’ve seen that I’m not the only blogger she tapped to host the giveaway and it looks legit so I said yes, but when the giveaway has ended, this girl is not replying anymore and I kept on sending my message stating the name of the winners and chosen prizes.

It took them a month to ship the prizes and last month I received an email from one of the winners. She said “kulang ang nareceive niya”. I email again my contact and until now no reply. I really apologize to the winner who received an incomplete prizes, I feel her because I experienced the worst. I won in two giveaways but unfortunately I did not receive my prizes.

I was so disappointed about the failed giveaway and because of that incident I declined two giveaways offer because I’m afraid that it will happen again. But then I realized that not all company are the same, I just need to make sure that the company and contact is really professional and legit. I have to remind myself “Don’t be too trusting!”. My last giveaway was good because after I sent the name and email of the winner, Abbey immediately sent the ebook.

4. Lastly, sharing my favorite blogging quote that I’ve posted in “Why I love being a Mom and Blogger” post “Don’t live to blog or blog to live, but live then blog”.

Again, thank you for taking time out of your day to read my post and hope you stay.
